OT: Your adjustment to life without sports?

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on June 30th, 2020 at 11:57 AM

Haven’t watched ESPN in months. Haven’t watched anything sports related in awhile either.

If the upcoming season winds up not happening I would say my interest level might suffer severely. I’ve taken up new hobbies and interests that have held my attention solidly throughout the quarantine.

Curious to hear others.

I started trading stocks back in April to fill the sports void. Have done okay and learned a ton. Still keep an eye on it but now that I am back to work I am not as invested. Ever since the weather warmed the wife and I have been busy with projects around the house. Not to mention we have a 2 year old that keeps us plenty busy. I own an insurance agency in Michigan and with the No Fault Reform beginning July 2nd we are swamped with questions from our insureds.

Life is fine.  No need for MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, or college football to come back in their present forms. We'd be better off if they all just went away.  Not likely but maybe this will force a reinvention at a more economical scale.   Society devotes far too many resources to the sports entertainment industry and it would be a welcome improvement to spend the time and money on more productive pursuits.

Sports has been a large part of my life, and that's probably going to continue. Watching live sports on television, though? I'm not really missing it, and that might be somewhat permanent.

We had chosen Sony Vue for the most streamlined package with BTN. When that went out of business, we switched to YoutubeTV. Without sports, though, that seems expensive. They just announced today another large price increase and a bunch of stations we will never watch (no rebates, of course, for ESPN or BTN while they don't have live sports). So we'll cancel that at the end of the current billing period.

Perhaps (though it will be an initial cost because we are a long way from the nearest broadcast antennas) we'll go to an outdoor antenna and ditch streaming altogether. I can see us not really caring about the BTN whenever they have live sports again.
