OT: What classic UM Basketball game would you like to see again?
After watching the "We had Subs" game again. It got me thinking, what other classic Michigan basketball game would you like to see on the B1G network?
Personally, I would like to see the Sweet 16 game against UNC in 1989 when Glen Rice went crazy and I would like to see the game with the Fab 5 against UNC when we beat them in the Hawaii tournament in the same year we lost to them in the finals.
It seems like they re-air a lot of the same classic games over and over and it would be refreshing to see some of the "classic" games from the late 80's and early 90's.
Fab five in Crisler... Was there and it was crazy! No subs though
ago a friend of mine loaned me a VHS tape of that game and the Cinci Final Four game. I literally went to Good Will to buy a VCR to watch them. It was grainy, and of terrible quality, and it was AWESOME. They came together like peices to a puzzle as the Duke game went ot.
I have some other gems on VHS too. I have the Elite Eight game vs. Temple, the Final Four game v. Kentucky, and the entire tourney run from 1994. We gave Arkansas a much better game than people remember. I also have the State game from 94 when Respert went all Respert at Crisler.
i think if I had to pick one that I have not seen after its original air date it would be the game at Notre Dame in 92 when they all started.
Best game at Crisler I ever saw, even with the L.
I sat next to a guy who yelled "RAT-BOY!" every time Hurley had the ball. I can still here it echoing in my head.

Fab Five game against Kentucky in the Final Four. Was probably their best performance in their two years together.
that and the home game against Indiana that same year. It just happened to be the case that Indiana was really, really good that year and performed in the clutch. Michigan was outstanding that night too though.
was there in seattle at the kingdome. would love to see it again. followed by the semi-final thriller against illinois.
Im all in for that Illinois game. One of the best college games Ive ever watched.

vs. Kansas. 30 foot dagger.
was the Kansas coach trying to keep his guys in it, even though he knew he was witnessing a buzz saw. . . that desperate enouragment was priceless. . . .
else still have the Kansas, Florida, and Syracuse game on their DVR and watch them incrementally each day? Just checking.
Don't forget the VCU thrashing
Not sure on the details but this was probably the first "big" win for the Fab Five. I was there playing in band.
I was at the 1995 Duke/Michigan game at Crisler, which was great. I'm not sure if it qualifies as a "classic" but it was the first time we beat Duke since 1989 I think.
I'd love to watch that game on television. I think my Mom forgot to set the VCR so my Dad and I could watch the game when we got home and I've still never seen the replay.
I don't remember beating them that year. I remember winning in Durham on Tractor's dunk in 96 but I don't remember anything about the 95 game. Weird.
in 97, literally in the last row, cement wall behind me. I am trying to think, 95 would have been the first year without King and Jackson, correct. They beat us at Cameron in 92-93, and they took us to the shed at home in 93-94. So, Jackson and King had to have played them in Durham at the end of 94. So, yeah, I guess that would have been the year after the "new Fab Five" arrived. Huh, drawing a complete blank.
I have to go, gotta take this page.
It was Bullock/Baston/Taylor/Traylor team and Duke had Capel/Collins.
Found the box score on MGoBlue.
Maceo went off!

As ususal I agree with XtraMelanin
I'll one more though for purely personal reasons. 1981 Michigan-Indiana at Crisler. That was back when Bobby Knight wore that God-awful sportcoat and I was a senior and had seats on the floor right next to the visitor's bench.
The game was nationally televised and we were riding Knight pretty hard. At some point in the game the ball rolled out of bounds in front of me and I stood and picked it up and tossed it back to the ref. Unfortunately in my excitement at being involved in the game I forgot that the seats folded back up when you arent in them so when I sat back down I fell straight on my ass onto the floor.
On national TV with the cameras on me. And I had a LOT of people let me know they saw it and recognized me when it happened.
to the ground, otherwise you'd have shown him a thing or two about chair throwing. can we get a bat light out to wolverine historian to get us a gif of the young-mgrowold on the television? that'd be worth it's own OP.
55-52 overtime win. Mike McGee.
Fans singing "Good Night Bobby."
the 1989 sweet 16 vs UNC and Zack Novak's aneurysm of leadership at MSU.
I would have loved to hear the conversation between Bo and Frieder right after Frieder said he was going to ASU the following year.
post links or videos because I am really, really, really bad at it. But there is a full game replay on you tube including introductions etc. of the Michigan at Duke game in 92-93. Was a crushing loss but pretty good for a stroll down memory lane.

really underrated and often forgotten about the Kansas game was how incredible GR3 was in the last 4 minutes of regulation. He very truly put on his back for a stretch where it looked like we were completely finished.
I watched the replay on Wednesday night (I pretty much watch the replay anytime its on in general).
He had a huge steal where Kansas was forcing something, I think we were down 12 and he had a steal, fast break and dunk from just inside the free throw line.
Just a bit later, there was a scramble and loose ball, he grabbed it and did this crazy athletic, twisty sort reverse layup.
Both remarkable plays and both plays that fulled momentum.
The Darius Morris "Get the fuck off my court" game. Kalin Lucas you can exit stage left.
was 2011 and not 2007. Darius was still in high school in 2007.
2011 is correct.
1989 Michigan v. Illinois, Final Four
2014 Michigan v. Kentucky, Elite Eight(loss I know still great game)
2012 Michigan v. Ohio State, Burke beats Sullinger
I was a senior at a high school in the Cleveland suburbs. The next day was an honors luncheon and all of the students attending stood up to introduce ourselves and name our college of choice.
I stood up and said that I would be attending the University of Michigan next fall. There was an audible buzz in the crowd. The school board president asked me if I had made my choice after the basketball game the day before. I said "No, I made it last November," which was technically true (acceptance letter arrived then) but it was also the month of the 31-3 Heisman pose game. My friend who was going to Duke, no lover of OSU, got the biggest kick out of my response.
Any game from the 1989 championship run.
Glen Rice is the greatest tournament player I've ever seen with my own eyes.
He was literally impossible. 3 point shooting percentage of somthing approaching 60 percent FOR THE TOURNAMENT. Ridiculous.
Imagine a player leading us to a championship with his off game being 27 points. Just amazing.
The opening round game of the 1992 Rainbow Classic vs Carolina. Jalen grabbed an offensive rebound and banked in a shot at the buzzer for a 79-78 win. The game was in Maui I believe, so it ended after midnight. I was only 12 at the time, and vividly remember my dad and I jumping up and high fiving each other at the end.
Also, the Final Four game against Cincinati and Nick Van Exel. Everybody said the veteran Bearcats and their press would rattle the kids. Not so much.
game I refer to as the James Voskuil game. He was clutch for us in the second half of that one. I also want to see that UNC Rainbow tournament game. I remember watching it live and it was a great game.
I'll go with the 2011 tourney win over Tennessee. That game, to me, signaled that Michigan was back.
I remember watching that one when I was 9 years old. I believe it was a Saturday night game, so I was allowed to stay up and watch it. That was a classic... Thanks for sharing.
I have the entire 1989 NCAA run (6 games). I originally taped them on vhs and later transferred them to dvd. Also the 1992 and 1993 final four games with the Fab Five.
It's nice to sit back and watch those games every once in a while.
