YES! Baligian is the man!

Where did you hear that about Baligian?

Morning drive: Sean Baligian - 7-10 AM - OK, good news.
Mid-days: FOX 2's Ryan Ermanni - 10AM-Noon - Why?
Afternoons: ESPN Radio's Colin Cowherd - Noon-2PM - WHY?????
Afternoon drive: Matt Shepard & Drew Sharp - 2PM-6PM - No, dear God, not Drew Sharp!!!!!

Aside from Seannie B, that's a train wreck. Valenti and Foster will absolutely crush that pair on the afternoon drive.
It looks like DFN is going cheap and dropping the Jim Rome show.
DFN will limp along, but ultimately convert to Urban Top 40 or something. As it stands now, half the time they run PSAs or just bumper music.
No Ads = no radio station...

Valenti has big-time potential; I'm not surprised that ESPN is tracking him (even though he regularly blasts the bastards from Bristol).
Where's the source of the Baligian news? Last I heard he was in GR doing afternoons...

He has big time potential but for all the wrong reasons. He is a complete blowhard. In sports talk, being loud gets you noticed.
September 1st, 2009 at 1:21 PM ^
... but Valenti has forgotten more than 95% of the other sportsradio jocks will ever know.
On the big three (Football, Baseball, NBA) he is untouchable.
His rant on the John L. Smith meltdown during halftime of that tOSU game belongs in the radio Hall of Fame.
"JUST MAKE PLAYS!"

He literally knows absolutely nothing about baseball. Nothing. He still holds RBI's in high regard, places very little value on defense, does not think Verlander is an Ace, thought Porcello was done awhile ago, etc. He's pretty good with football but the man knows nothing about baseball. Might as well let my aunt talk about the Tigers and MLB. She would be able to provide just as much useful commentary.

He doesn't know anything more than anyone else, his opinions are predictable and lame. He fakes emotion for Detroit sports because he is here but he really doesn't give a shit about what happens here. It is too bad, really because I would like to listen to TFoster but Valenti makes my stomach turn with his New York badass routine. Before Stoney and Wojo left the air he would always call his show "Detroit's best FM Sports talk show". Hard to disagree considering they were the ONLY FM talk show in their time slot. Detroit radio will be a better industry when guys like Valenti are off the air. I for one, won't listen to 97.1 anymore because of him.

But ratings are ratings and 97.1 (plus 1270) are #1 (among ALL stations):

you're right. They are the number one FM Sports radio station in Detroit. Oh, wait....they're the only FM Sports radio station in Detroit? Well facts are facts, I guess.

The only local sports talk radio hosts with any brains and capable of intelligent analysis were Wojo and Samuelsen.
September 1st, 2009 at 1:17 PM ^
... where are they now on the dial?
September 1st, 2009 at 2:18 PM ^
Sadly, they aren't on the radio right now as far as I know, though I thought I heard Jamie Samuelsen might be on WRIF. I loved that WDFN used to interview people: insiders, coaches, players and the like. 1270 rarely if ever does that. Most of the teases for Valenti and Foster are along the lines of: Help Me Decide Where to Go on Vacation! or some other non-sports related junk.
I tolerated the bits on Stoney and Wojo b/c they'd compensate by having good guests and were actually funny unlike Valenti and Foster. I'm not trying to rip you for your taste in radio shows, I just wish WDFN was still around.

nonetheless he is entertaining most of the time. It's just annoying that when it comes to negative press on UM he takes the first thing he hears and won't listen to the other side or anything. If it's negative and about Michigan, it must be true, and he doesn't question it.

Valenti always talks shit about every team and then RARELY goes to any games as an official member of the media because he is scared to face the people he always blasts. He only started going into the locker rooms after Gregg Henson blasted him for being a coward.
I heard about Baligian from Sean himself. We are facebook friends and I was a regular caller to "It Is What It Is".

I am not using hyperbole when I say that I've never heard a rational, cogent syllable uttered by this man.
The only "high potential" Valenti has is as a douchenozzle, so yeah, he'd fit right in at ESPN.
