Isn't the buyout an issue as well, given USC's current Nassar-adjacent legal troubles?
Feels like this is Swann not wanting to fire Helton combined with money issues and Helton pointing to Year II of JT Daniels and good recruiting.

I think it is somewhat of an issue with the legal troubles looming. If it really came down to the issue of a buyout, I think several of the large boosters would get together to get that settled.
Some SC alums have told me that they think that not having a president in place was another factor in keeping Helton for at least one more year. Because of all the turmoil within the administration, they weren't really in any place to conduct a full coaching search.

The fact that there are so many issues with the administration right now would definitely raise the eyebrow if a prospective big name coach right now. So Helton with new assistants may have been the best option. But USC alums and their checkbooks will not be satisfied with another crappy season. I think Helton was fortunate to have Darnold at QB for two years to disguise some of the coaching issues going on.

OR they have a wink-wink with Urbz. He takes a year off due to his "health", freshens up in the ABC booth for a season, and then takes the USC job after next season.

USC to get Kliff Kingsberry. Homerun hire by them.
This strategy seems much better than firing the coach. Give him boss coordinators first.

Not so fast my friend. Kliff Kingsbury has a ton of interest by the NFL teams to be their OC. He has NFL aspirations so it's not a slam dunk that he'll go to USC.

I’d actually be interested in bringing in Tee Martin if McElwain moves on, as he’s a known recruiter.

I don’t think these changes are Helton’s idea, I would bet these decisions were made for him as a condition of saving his job for another year. Look for his replacement to show up on staff in some capacity

USC coaching issues have nothing to do with USC recruiting. USC still has 5 star QB and 5 star WRs.
