OT: Tate Martell commitment

Submitted by Bo's Hat 41 on
Tate Martell has committed to Texas A&M. We were in his top 5 and considered a likely option by most. Any thoughts on why he didn't commit? Is it just because Harbaugh seems to prefer a pro style type guy?

OP forgot to mention who he was. He's a 2017 dual threat 5 star QB. Got an offer from us in June apparently. There wasn't much indication that he had any interest in Michigan. Lots of people have Michigan in their top five just because they want it to seem like academics plays a significant factor in their recruitment. This happens quite a bit in basketball :-/. Anyway 2017 is a quite some time away. Let's just focus on this season and getting the 2016 class wrapped up first.

I don't think most kids fall into the, "They want people to think they care about academics so they put Michigan in their top five." If that were the case, they'd put Harvard, Virginia, Stanford, Vanderbilt, UCLA etc, etc in there.

I think it has more to do with Michigan has a rockstar head coach, the biggest stadium in America, some of the best uniforms in the country, and is universally known as the winningest college football program in the history of the sport.

Looks like you don't have to worry about that.  After this thread became his own personal negbang, he's now below the point threshold for creating threads.

Who isnt disappointed at all? His measurables just dont look great, especially because we are going to run a pro style offense. Id rather go out there with Peters/Gentry and create another Luck (I wish :( .)

Being under 6 ft and under 200 lbs sounds much more suited for a Kevin Sumlin offense than a Jim Harbaugh offense. Harbaugh wants his QBs built like Andrew Luck or Colin Kaepernick; built like a tank.

Not knocking the kid at all, but from a physicals perspective, sounds more like a Manziel-type build and what Sumlin wants in his QBs.
