OT: Rich Rodriguez lands mobile QB from TX plus 3 good LBs (PLEASE DELETE WITH MALICE AFORETHOUGHT THANKS)

Submitted by markusr2007 on

After nailing down his new staff last week, former UM coach Rodriguez  appears to have secured 3 decent LB commits to Arizona, plus a backup QB for returning Matt Scott.

The new quarterback recruit for Arizona is unranked mobile QB Javelle Allen from TX.  Offers from Indiana, Ark State, NM State and Utah State not that exciting, but he does looks like another everybody-says-he-should-be-playing-DB someplace-gamebreaker that Rodriguez has been famous for these past several years.

Arizona's days at 11th in PAC-12 league rushing are probably over.

There are no complaints about the thread about a Cal commit flipping to UCLA because it is the first time something like that has been posted.  I didn't get much out of it, but if I see a bunch more threads popping up about Cal and UCLA recruiting I sure will get annoyed.

The issue isn't that RR shouldn't be discussed. It's that some members of the MGoBoard seem obsessed with seeing him succeed and following his coaching tenure at Arizona, which is fine, but this is not an Arizona blog.  UM has almost nothing to do with Arizona.  OT is OT, but there are other places to post things about Arizona recruiting that will receive a more interested response than here.

The difference is that it directly relates to recruits at Cal who we want to flip at Michigan, in that if some are jumping, the ones considering Michigan may too.  We weren't after any of these guys in this post.

And guys, it's "singling out" (or probably more appropriately "singled"). Not a big deal, but it was starting to replicate.

A) We don't get that many updates on him (e.g. he changed schools...again).

B) The posts on him are the equivalent of RR leaving to go to another school.  We are making posts about RR that are the equivalent of Tate becoming a vegetarian or dropping math class.

C) Tate didn't humiliate the fan base and to be quite honest, I feel more sorry for him than RR. Tate is an immature ass, but he's only 19-20, and will live a lifetime of regret of the opportunity he squandered.  RR will likely have that kind of regret for leaving WV, but at least he made MILLIONS in the process and has the chance of starting another legacy at Arizona.

...to hear that our former coach managed to pull an unranked recruit away from football powerhouse Indiana to help build his program at Arizona.  This is very relevant news for our football program at Michigan, because without this knowledge, we'd be quaking in our boots the next time we play Indiana.

Maybe next time you could give recruiting updates for other schools and coaches we don't give a sh*t about. Holy cross? Pittsburg state? What about Oregon state or Washington state? Assclown is gone, move on

Right now on the front page, there are posts about Muhammad Ali's birthday and a Cal recruit flipping to UCLA.

I think we can handle a post about our former head coach's quarterback recruiting at his next job.

You know it's not a single RR-related post that's irking people--it's the sheer volume of them, and the increasing lack of relevance in them to Michigan.

Obviously a lot of people liked the man when he was here, and some continue to do so.  I like him and wish him well, but at some point it's just too much.

Right...and what about all the Demar Dorsey threads?  Rodriguez coached here for three seasons, and Dorsey never even made it to campus...yet we still see Dorsey threads.  And there were two or three posts about how GRCC shut down their football program.  How relevant are those things?

And what about the weekly "What are you drinking?" threads?

This board is all over the place.  If the mods wanted to keep it strictly to Michigan football, then there are lots of things that should be deleted.  But it's the off-season, and I would much rather read stuff about Rodriguez's recruiting success/failure at Arizona than about whether Blue_in_Seattle (I just made up that name...sorry if it's an actual poster) is drinking whisky or beer tonight.

Bottom line: If people around here liked Rodriguez, they wouldn't mind all the Rodriguez threads.  But they don't, so it pisses them off.  And liking or disliking him is irrelevant to the topic of Rodriguez being . . . relevant.  If you don't like the subject, skip it and move on celebrating Cassius Clay's b-day.

And yet people have said numerous, numerous, numerous times that he's not coming to Michigan.  So he's completely irrelevant, unless you're a recruitnik like me who enjoys following former recruits . . . and coaches.

Dorial Green-Beckham isn't coming to Michigan.  Neither is Gunner Kiel.  Neither is Les Miles.  Or Nick Saban.  But I've still seen threads about them.

A thread asking why our coaches don't try to get Dorsey?  That's a-okay with me.  An RR-in-Arizona thread that concerns Michigan? Also okay with me.  And the occassional OT one is cool as well.

But you know as well as I do how many of these RR-in-Arizona threads there are, and how many of them DON'T actually relate to Michigan at all, aside from the fact that they concern our former coach.  I'm a big believer in "don't care, don't read," but not when they come so frequently and have so little to do with our program.

This is why people get irked.  It's not the individual post, it's the cumulative effect.  I DO like Rich Rodriguez, and wish him well, but I DON'T see how he's relevant to our program anymore, aside from residual effects on our roster, some unanswered questions about our performance 2008-2010 and the occassional competition for recruits.

This thread, and a number of others, don't have anything to do with any of those three things.

"I DO like Rich Rodriguez, and wish him well, but I DON'T see how he's relevant to our program anymore, aside from residual effects on our roster, some unanswered questions about our performance 2008-2010 and the occassional competition for recruits."

He's no less relevant to our program than Tom Brady, David Harris, Steve Breaston, Chad Henne, Jake Long, and numerous other ex-players.  If there's a moratorium placed on Rodriguez threads, then we should probably stop posting threads like the one(s) about Tom Brady's shoulder and whether he'll play that week.  Hell, I still see an occasional thread about Tom Harmon, and that guy has been dead for over 20 years.

If Rodriguez were Bo Schembechler, we could start 1,000 threads about his new job for the Detroit Tigers and nobody would give a damn.

But like I said, it's Rich Rodriguez and he didn't win enough for us and, dammit, we don't wanna hear about him anymore!  Except some of us do.

I'm interested.  Clearly other people are, too.  He's an ex-coach.  Skip it if you see "Rodriguez" or "Arizona" in the title.  It's not that difficult.

I think you're overestimating the number of Rich Rodriguez threads that appear around here.  He got a QB (he has a tendency to turn quarterbacks into stars) and he got Jeff Casteel (a defensive coordinator who could have helped him keep the Michigan job).  Both of those things happened recently, and a thread was started about each.  Other than that, I don't remember a great deal of Rodriguez threads around here recently.

and I quote:

"Per Brian's direction, no Rodriguez posts unless (and I'm paraphrasing) they directly relate to the current status of Michigan football or are thought-provoking historical analysis."

I probably wouldn't even go that far, but I just feel like every time I log on, there's some new thread informing me of who urinates where in Tuscon.

As of 2:40 EST, I see 6/15 threads on the sidebar that I give exactly 0 shits about, and another 6 that I could go without, but I don't go into them and whine about how it's off-topic or irrelevant.

What do people want? Updates everytime Borges takes a dump? That's cool because it's related to Michigan, right?

The kid had 1,497 yards rushing and 22 touchdowns on the ground, plus 30 touchdowns and only 5 picks through the air (on 61.7% passing).

Low rated recruit or not, he certainly put up some good numbers in high school.

On a side note, one of his receivers was Torii Hunter, Jr. . . . the son of the Twins/Angels outfielder.

That might have something to do with playing in AAA ball, the third highest (or lowest, it's in the dead middle) of Texas high school football.  Not saying the guy isn't good, but it sounds like a wealthy school with a ton of support, which can't hurt.

I can't get a Michigan/Va Tech UFR to save my life, but when Rich Rod gets an unranked QB to verbal to a school we never play or have anything to do with...it's a 2 page thread.

Sigh.

...somewhere that those who want to follow that teams recruiting can join.

I wish him, and them, a world of success, (unless they get into a game against Michigan).

But, that ship has sailed and threads such as this one are a waste just asking to be critized for existing.

We don't need to get RR's recruiting info on a Michigan blog.

At what point should people who want to bitch about posts join a bitch-about-posts-blog...

Seriously... skim and scan it's not that hard.

I enjoy reading the RR threads and feel he's still relevant in the mgouniverse as much as say former QB Tom Brady (why not join a Patriots blog) etc.
