OT - Orange Bowl Parking/Tailgating

Submitted by funkifyfl on

SIAP, but my search didn't turn up anything. I snagged some tickets with friends and family for the Orange Bowl. Wondering if anyone has any insight regarding where to park or tailgate for the game. I'm still figuring out whether I'll have time to tailgate, so any information on general parking and tailgating would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I did a similar drive (Ann Arbor to West Palm Beach) a couple of times with three other people. It took roughly eighteen hours with maybe three five-minute stops for gas. (We had food and drinks in the car.) This was before the speed limits were bumped up from 55 in most places, so we had to be careful.

Unfortunately it looks as though $600-$700 is the cheapest I could find....unless of course you want to drive 6 hours going and 6 hours coming back. Columbus to Orlando flights were about $400-$450 each. Not sure once you add in gas, tolls, etc you save all that much in driving Ann Arbor to Columbus and then Orlando to Hollywood/Miami area. If you have 4 or 5 people in your group it might be worth it. Good Luck! Go Blue!

If you haven't been to the stadium before, it's sort of in the middle of a residential neighborhood so there aren't a ton of options outside the stadium for parking/walking. I would not advise parking nearby and walking up. You're a bit stuck in the lots for tailgating options.

I haven't been there in about 3 years but Miami Gardens isn't a huge "destination" other than the stadium and the casino, which is just north and does have horse racing.

We were able to get round trip from Grand Rapids to Orlando for the two of us, $800 total. Leaving Thursday return Sunday. I was planning on hopefully starting a thread at a later date but it would make sense to just ask here. Any Miami residents or frequent travelers have suggestions on non-chain restaurants and sights to visit? Want to try some authentic Cuban food for one thing.

If you are in Miami, the classic places are Cafe Versailles (pronounced Ver-sigh-ez in Spanglish) or La Carreta on Eight Street (Calle Ocho) in Little Havana. There are tons of hole-in-the-wall cuban places around though. In South Beach, try Puerto Sagua on Collins and 6th or David's Cafecito on Alton Road.

As mentioned your best bet is to just park in one of the stadium lots. There's nothing there similar to the golfcourse tailgating in Ann Arbor or the Grove at Ole Miss or anything like that. Pretty basic parking lot tailgating.  Lot #2 (one of the orange lots) is probably the easiest in/out lot off the turnpike.
