OT: Lupe Fiasco's 'Tetsuo & Youth'

Submitted by Lupe Fiasco on

For those uninitiated, today a couple of albums were released; Joey Badda$$' 'B4.DA.$$' and Lupe Fiasco's 'Tetsuo & Youth'.

I got the leaked versions over the weekend and plan to go grab T&Y at Best Buy after class. T&Y is literally a work of art, the only album it reminds me of is MBDTF.

Is anyone else here excited, or plan to be buying a album today? And for those who are or already have it, you know you need a place to discuss and decipher it

Joey Badass' album is really good, and reminds me of that old 90's sound that I love so much.  Really liked it.

Lupe lost me years ago, and considering you are comparing this to Kanye's MBDTF, it makes me not want to listen to it.  I can't stand Kanye, and thought MBDTF was soooo overrated.  I'll stick to Ghostface's 36 seasons,  Run the Jewels 2, and Joey's new album but no Lupe for me.

Tetsuo & Youth is awesome and as a big Lupe fan I can say it's unique to everything else he's put out. Much more an "artsy" feel than anything else he's done. Lyrics are on point as always, but may have to give a re-listen or two before you fully digest the songs.

Highly recommended

Thanks much OP... I love seeing music threads around here every once in a while.  I used to be a major Lupe fan, but F&L 2 wasn't that great IMO, and I really haven't listened to him in three or four years as a result... I'm a third of the way through Tetsuo and Youth, and I'm loving it so far

You are damn right about that.  I never thought that Killer Mike and El-Producto would be a match made in heaven, but damn, they run rap right now.  El-P is what Kanye wishes he was, and he didn't have to be a huge sellout to do so.  RAP music, Cancer 4 Cure and both RTJ albums are better than 99% of what is considered rap music.  Anybody that puts Kendrick Lamar's album in the "classic" category, is just young in my opinion.  That album pales in comparison to great great albums of the 90's like Innercity Griots, All Balls don't bounce, Time Will Reveal, Uncle Sam's Curse, etc.  I find it very sad that Lupe Fiasco and Kanye are talked about around these parts like they were legends or something.  They are both shit.

Been a Lupe fan since F&L, actually saw him perform at Hill back in the day. This is his best album since The Cool. Still it does not touch My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Love that Lu is back on his lyrical A game.
