OT: Jacoby Jones- How is this turd still playing on a pro team?
In his 4th year of playing baseball,......
he is batting .194 (.137 this year)
OBP of .254 (.214 this year)
Slugging .330 (.216 this year)
I used to be hard on Brandon Inge at the plate, but this guy makes Brandon Inge look like Babe Ruth. This guy fucking sucks! How is he not only sticking in the league, but starting?!?!?!?!
Tigers pitching in 2 years will be one of the best rotations in baseball. They need to badly fix the bats though.
He plays the easiest position to find a good bat - OF. If it were catching, i would give him a pass.
CF is not the easiest position. it's the toughest/most important after SS and C.
I hope you're not suggesting to move Jones behind the plate.
Move him to SS. He can be the 21st century version of Ray Oyler.
Well, that's like your opinion man. Jacoby believes he's the best defensive outfielder in the bigs.
"I feel like every time on defense I can make a play, and in my mind I feel like I'm the best defensive player out there and that's how I always think." Jacoby Jones
Hell, he very well may be. But is the gap between him and the average defensive stats for an outfielder larger than the gap between him and the average offensive stats for an outfielder?
No it's not. My comment was made in jest btw. Having a great defensive CF is a big help to the pitching staff, but you have to provide something at the plate.
Because he has a cool name
He is painful to watch at the plate. Swings at way too many bad pitches. Like other comments, he is just a stopgap until Daz Cameron is ready.
well, he struck out looking twice last nite.
Coaches probably didn't notice his stats
Better knock on wood regarding your statement on the rotation. It can change in a seeming instant. In 2003, the Cubs had Kerry Wood, Mark Prior, and Carlos Zambrano, only to have Dusty Baker destroy two of the arms and the third go crazy in the span of a couple years.
Classic case of a guy getting rushed up to the Majors before he was ready. He needed another year or two in the minors getting regular ABs and refining his swing/approach.
Jones' first full season in the bigs was last year and he turns 27 next week. At that age, you are no longer considered a prospect, you either produce or get replaced.
Unless he somehow becomes a Nico Goodrum-esque late bloomer (and with Jones' lack of pitch recognition and plate discipline, it's not happening), it's looking more and more as if Jones' bat will never justify his playing everyday. His defense and speed may keep him on someone's MLB roster, but as a glove first utility man.
But then they will unload their stud pitchers to other teams where they will experience the World Series...
This is really not hard to comprehend.
1. He is incredibly cheap. He makes less than 1% of the teams total contract.
2. He plays really solid defense.
3. They are not in contention, if they were they would go get someone better.
If you want something to blame, look at the contract of Miggy who makes up 25% of the Tiger's team payroll. 1 man, 25%. And lets assume they picked up someone like George Springer to replace him. They would have to sign him to a multi-year deal (He currently makes $12 Million a year which would be third most on the Tigers roster currently) I am guessing he will get a 5 year deal at some point and probably to the tune of 15 million a year. That would make no sense for this team, and would maybe get them 8-10 more wins this year from his direct impact at an absolute maximum, probably more like 4-5.
But keep throwing your little tantrum. 2 years from now they will be in a position to start signing a few established guys and they have to hope some prospects and drafts work out. If not, well then this rebuild is going to be even longer than any of us hoped.
He's a good defensive center fielder, but yeah, traditionally, you get some at least decent offensive production from that position as well. Position players with immediate prospects in the bigs are kind of at a premium in the Tigers organization right now unfortunately.
Pretty simple, really. The Tigers don't have anyone better. Mahtook and Reyes have shown they are no better, Peterson can't play center and Daz Cameron is still a year or two away.
Saw headline and thought JaCoby had done something like beat his wife. Realized it's just because OP is being a turd, since calling people "turds" for not hitting a baseball is - no pun intended - a shitty thing to do.
Am I the only person that thinks WAR overrates defense too much? Like we act like trout is a player we’ve never seen before. It was Griffey and a-rod before him, and banks and mays before them.
As if Jacoby Jones is the only Tiger who isn't hitting/can't hit. Check out the averages of the starters and primary utility guys. As far as I can tell he fits right in.
Maybe he can play in the European League. Or Asia. France? Latvia? Turkey? Israel. Yeah. Israel. Oops. Wrong sport.
All major league players are good.
Load up on pitching and purchase bats (when needed) and somehow find a way to finally purge the worst contracts.
Also, you said "hard on."
What sport is this?
Dude's not a turd, he is what he is. Blame his superiors for putting him in a situation he can't handle.
JaCoby's gonna be 27 next Friday. This is his "shit or get off the pot" year. Problem is, Daz Cameron hasn't shown that he's even remotely ready to hit major league pitching. Derek Hill is more likely to bust than he is to see the majors. This is his 6th year in the minors, and he's just now getting to AA. Mikie Mahtook makes JaCoby Jones look like Tony Gwynn. So, to answer a question asked earlier, no, there is not another centerfielder currently in this organization that can hit .200 at the MLB level. Check back in a year or possibly two.
As I type and read this, Jones strikes out on a pitch so far inside it might have hit him in the dick had he not swung.
And wouldn't you know it...Jacoby ties the game in the 6th. Let's get another W!
He just knocked in the game tying run with two out. He's going to start hitting. He has great speed & is an excellent fielder. The Tigers are not going anywhere. They will give him a chance to see if he can play. But this year will be it. If he doesn't do it this year, he will be gone.
