OT - Heisman Ceremony

Submitted by Optimism Attache on

Award is later tonight, but discussion with the nominees has started during half-time of the Army/Navy game.

Can anyone make a compelling case for Gordon or Cooper?

I'm almost positive it's Mariota this year, but any other season I'd be Hangin' with Mr. Cooper.

It is Mariotta but Coop will be something else next year when he plays on Sundays.

I would love for it to go to a wide out especially one like Coop who shines even on a team that is loaded with 5 stars.

I'm of the mindset that while Gordon is a very good back, some of his success was due to playing horrible defenses.....until he ran into OSU last Saturday.  He looked like a beaten man at the end of that game.  Any chance he had, I believe, went away with 2.9 YPC.

Gordon had a legitimate shot last week. Could've made a Heisman statement against OSU, but there's no way he'll win tonight.

No disrespect to him. He's a great RB, but Mariota taking home the hardware is essentially a formality at this point.

The 2nd question is will Mariota break the record (that Desmond holds) for widest margin of victory.

Those are really the only things we should be talking about.

it was at the downtown athletic club of course right in NY, 1/2 a block from the world trade center.  when we played in new york they would put us up at the DTAC which is alot like the detroit athletic club in terms of it's history, great facilities, neat older building.

the heisman room was wood paneled and had every heisman winner's picture hanging on the wall.   every winner that is, except one.   OJ was strangely missing...

Mariota easily. Gordon cost himself a lot vs OSU and Cooper has been great but he has less hype at a position that rarely wins and honestly probably deserves it less.

But if Mariotta wins, will oregon lose? I would rather have Cooper win the Heisman so Bama lose's to OSU and then Oregon beats OSU for the title.

Mariotta.... I'm shocked - not....  However, you cannot say he's not deserving. I just looked at this stat line and wow:

3783 yds
68.3% Completion!?!
38 TD, 2 INT
QBR - 186.3

These stats are almost identical to his Frosh/Soph year so they aren't an abberration.  I know he gets dinged for only looking at his first read then throwing or running.  But when you have that TD to INT ratio, that completion % and those yards (not even including his yds on the ground),  dude is pretty much a stud. I cannot wait to see the Rose Bowl WInston vs. Mariotta
