OT - Funny/Clever MGB Posts

Submitted by Bo248 on August 18th, 2019 at 8:43 AM

I’ve had plenty of laughs reading MGB posts.  Truly some of the funniest stuff ever has been posted here.  (Much of it regarding lame OT posts like this)

It got me thinking, what has been your favorite post or funniest, most clever or most creative post you’ve read (or posted)?

My vote to start things off:

From Googles Paisano - As a kid, I did receive as a Christmas present, a #16 Gary Danielson jersey.  No child should ever have to endure such trauma.

(Thanks all for the engaged levity)

The MGOBLOG CAMPING TRIP reminded me of that famous group outing that did not go so well in Russia at DYATLOV PASS (recently featured in our Wednesday MGOBLOG Twilight Zone Show).

The bizarre deaths are hauntingly unsolved.....

I did look up the guy who put the trip together and he was called "Dennis The Red Menace".

The Lloyd Brady photoshop thread or the time Brian guaranteed something wouldn’t happen with the promise of eating a lemon only to have that thing happen and he refuse to eat said lemon which spawned a day of protest videos of users eating lemons to call him out.

I did a little digging into the final posts of CRex.  The final one, as you hinted, was about Al Borges, but prior to that post in Nov 2013, he hadn't posted since late September 2013, in particular in this front page thread:  https://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/apparently-i-have-say-treat-recruits-respect?sort_by=thread&items_per_page=50&page=6

...in which Brian demands more respect to be shown towards recruits in the aftermath of the "he looks too young" comments meltdown after a particular Brandon Brown column.  (Was this particular thread during what has sometimes been referred to as "The Great MGoPurge"?  Brian banned long-time MGoUser ChitownBlue during that thread and threatened to do so with others.)

Anyway, regarding CRex, he made several posts in that lengthy thread---most of CRex's posts occur between pages 6 and 11 of the 14-page long thread.  And the tone of his posts (he made several comments countering Brian's) makes me believe that he very soon later decided to step away from MGoBlog for good as a regular poster.

If you're out there lurking somewhere CRex, please come back---even if it's just on a limited basis.

...or even just enough to let us know all is well with you, your bride, and her hilariously wonderful family.

Another great post is actually a 6-part series by CRex about his Korean girlfriend and a surprise visit from her family.

I reread it---all 6 chapters---just this spring; for some reason, though I can now only access part 3 in the user-curated archives:

http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/ot-crex-part-3

Maybe someone else can access the rest of it, I'd have to say it is my all-time favorite "diary" ever posted on MGoBlog.

I'm hoping Seth responds to my request and unlocks the other 5 chapters.  Those and the one I was able to post are all listed under the heading "Useful Stuff" directly under the MGOBLOG banner up top, the drop-down box allows you to then click on "User-curated HOF", which is a treasure chest of wonderful posts, both from the front page and the board.

Chapter One is a must-read, detailing the initial shock to both CRrx and to his future in-laws upon their surprise visit, and it gets better from there.  It's comedy gold, I tell ya!!!

Seth⭐---can you fix the links for Parts 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6 of the "CRex meets his girlfriend's Korean family" saga?

All 6 chapters have links in the User-curated MGoHallofFame https://mgoblog.com/content/user-curated-mgohalloffame , but the only clickable link of the 6 chapters that actually works for me is Chapter 3 (chapter 1, 2, 4, and 5 give me a "you are not authorized..." message and Chapter 6 "requested link not found".  All 6 chapter links were posted---and worked--- a few months ago in another thread and I spent a couple hours re-reading and enjoying each and every one of them then. (As you may have noticed, I posted the only the link (chapter 3) that worked when I posted about the CRex series on Sunday afternoon.).

Thanks.

I've brought this example up before, but regrettably, its still relevant, and looks to remain so for years to come. October 2014, there was an unending stream of crap threads, triple posts, and pointless hot takes during mid season. A bunch of them hit in a row, again, so a poster started a thread called: Title, content was: Discuss! Seemingly seconds later another poster heroically followed suit with: SIAP: Title, content was again: Discuss! It was so beautiful, I'm not ashamed to admit I cried.

Well I did get my cats name from this board. Just so happens I was having trouble with a name for my rescue cat. One Friday iirc there was a thread from another fellow mgblogger looking to name his kids new kitten. One suggestion was Zazzles the hunting leopard. Needless to say, a one Zazzles the hunting leopard  is my best friend.

Sad that with the switch to the new site the point totals didn't translate over. I'll never know precisely how many upvotes some of those great posts got.

For me, the best post ever was an OP quoting Mark Hollis's tweet quoted below, immediately following the 2011 basketball regular season finale (Michigan won a home game, earning the season sweep over MSU)

@MSUAD: When choosing between a great season and a great program, I will always choose the program. #SpartanPride

The first response was from user FGB, though it it's not visible anymore since the comment subject field is now gone. But it basically said "that's not a nice thing to say to his football team" which of course had just come off of their first Big Ten championship in twenty years. The response was immediate, simple, and absolutely savage.

I remember a poster telling a story about an April fool's joke they played on their brother or friend. It had to do with them waking their friend up frantically yelling that the Russians we're invading, and ended with them getting punched in the face. It wasnt just the story, but the way it was told that had me dying laughing.

I took screenshots of a thread of comments on a post not too long ago this past season. Maybe to people who have been on here longer or read all the threads have found funnier ones but this is till my favorite exchange on here. I don’t even remember what the topic was:
