OT - Favorite MgoComedians
I watched the Justin Bieber Roast last night which was as good as expected. It got me thinking about some of my favorite comedians. Of course the famous ones, everyone knows about, but there are some really good, lesser known guys. Moshe Kasher is one of my favorite guys, and he was one of the writers for last night's roast. For the family men, Tom Papa is also very talented.
Tom Segura
Jim Gaffigan
Trever Noah (A South African comedian who is replacing Jon Stewart on the Daily Show)
Any recommendations or favorites?

Of Amy Schumer. She might be my favorite comedian going right now. Pete Davidson killed on the roast (still can't get over the plane joke about his dad) and considering he's only 21 and on SNL I think he has a bright future.

Rich used to do comedy at the Union when he was a student at U-M in the early 1990s. His signature bit was an imitation of Howard Cosell reading Penthouse Forum letters. It was pretty damn funny.

Louis CK is my favorite comedian currently.

Big Names;
Bill Burr
Louis CK
Hannibal Burress
Jon Mulaney
Lesser Names:
Rory Scovel
Kyle Kinane
Jonah Ray
Brian Regan
Rory Scovel did a hilarious set on Conan (IIRC) with a southern accent that disappeared the next time I saw him do comedy. It blew my mind.
Agreed on Kyle Kinane. I liked his old stuff better.

Like a school girl during his comedy special on Netflix. His TV show now is just ok, and he was an amazing writer on SNL.

i wanna say class of 93.
i grew up with them just down the street. old family friends.
Was their father Larry Sklar (a high muckity-muck in the Philosophy Dept. back in the day)?
Nope. Dick Sklar. Passed away probably 5 years ago. Great guy.

John Mulaney is my favorite comedy writer--his stuff on SNL was genious (see Stefan), and his stand-up is also great (see New in Town on Netflix).
Pete Holmes has a terrific podcast, but I don't like his stand-up all that much.
Rory Scoval is newer to the scene, but has tons of talent and is incredibly funny.
The cast of Silicon Valley is pretty much everyone I find hilarious--Kumail Nanjiani, Thomas Middleditch, TJ Miller. If you haven't seen the first season finale, you need to. Never laughed so much.
Saw all these guys in Denver in the past year--good place for comedy!

Forgot about Bo Burnham. Not for everyone, but I love it.
I second Bo Burnham. He has/had a great special on Netflix, and he was also good on "Parks and Recreation."

I find most stand-up to be just awful, with the limited exception of Louis CK.

gone, but not forgotten.

can mean a lof of things right now, there is not a whole lot of stand-up going on right now. You almost have to expand the criteria to include people like Seth Rogan, Steve Carrol, Rob Drydek, etc. - people whose job it is to be funny but not necessarily by way of traditional stand-up. Jon Stewart jumps to mind of course, Erik Andre can have me on the floor laughing at times.
