OT: Debbie Reynolds (Carrie Fisher's mom) dead

Submitted by Go Blue Eyes on

2016's death march is still taking them right up until the end.  Apparently the death of her daughter was too much and now Debbie Reynolds has died.  Being a huge Sinatra fan I loved her in "The Tender Trap."

Many celebrities don't live lifes worth celebrating.  Often they are vapid, uneducated, and of questionable morals.

But somehow, they think their status gives them position to carry on about stuff we wouldn't listen to if they were Joe down the block or Sue at the office. RE: Tom Cruise or Gwyneth Paltrow.

Hell, I'm openly rooting, daily, for the Kardashians to die!

It may not even be about politics.  Most politicians suck.  2016 totally sucked for me but then again, so did 2015 and 2014.  A lot of that has to do with getting older and life events that are beyond anyone's control.

I looked at CNN's list of famous people we have lost this year.  Go ahead and browse through the list.  I promise there will be at least one time where you say, Damn I didn't know he or she died this year.

Why do we grieve over the loss of people we have never met?  Why not, when these are the people who have given us memories and made us laugh or made us think or whatever.  That's who you are going to remember.

I really appreciate the no politics rule here on MGoBlog.  There are many longtime contributors who I don't want to know if they agree with me on politics, religion or the Great Pumpkin.  I just think one faction has gone overboard downvoting anyone who wasn't thrilled with 2016.

from seeing Rogue One, with my daughter.  I had been wondering how Carrie's death would affect her mother.  I am not really shocked by this news.

This is really more about memories than talent. Carrie had one good role in her whole career and it was an Emmit Smith roke where lots of people of sumilar talent would have also succeeded.

Carrie had other good roles, that were made better for what she brought to the screen. Her other roles encompassed more than acting, such as writing.

I like Cindy Williams and she read for the role of Leia but it's widely acknowledged that Carrie made that role her own unique contribution to the film world.

It's often difficult to compare talent when there are so many people with talent.  What you can't compare or quantify is the human element of personal charisma that can't be duplicated with study.  Carrie Fisher will always be Leia Organa.
