Firing Dombrowski was a huge mistake. At least he got us three great pitchers as a parting gift. I can't tell if Avila doesn't have a plan or if he's just not capable of executing the plan he has. The Tigers are going nowhere. Not great. Not terrible. Just there.

Let me guess. .194/.311/.376 in about 40 games total 140 ABs.

We basically gave that catcher away to Texas last year, yeah he hit from the right side and wasn't all that great, but he'd probably be a lot cheaper. If it makes the club feel better, I'm sure he could've turned around and swung lefty and watched a few pitches go by.

We're going to miss Salty, he won us some games.

This is actually a good move for a backup catcher that gets on base. People that are mad about this need to slow their role. He is going to be giving James Mccann a blow twice a week. More importantly, he is a good defensive catcher, decent arm, and he knows the pitching staff well (and a division rivals pitiching staff, for the matter) This is a good cheap deal for a number 2 catcher that plays good defense.

They needed a cheap left handed backup catcher and that is exactly what they got. If you were expecting more you haven't been paying attention. If they can add a cheap veteran CF they will have a decent shot of makin the playoffs and I think that is the best we can hope for at this point. Let's enjoy one more year of a contending team before the tear down starts.
