Onwenu taking snaps at DT

Submitted by Wee-Bey Brice on

Surprised at the lack of info to leak out of the submarine and reach the board but Big Mike posted a video to Facebook of him getting his first solo tackle.

What ever position he can make the biggest impact in, I am good with. But I was looking at him being a factor in the O line group for 2017. I hope this means they feel good with what they have or maybe this means they are worried more about D line depth in 2017.

If that's where he can play that will best help the team, then so be it.

Harbaugh is a guy that doesn't seem to want to pigeon-hole anyone to any one position. Recruit the best, most versatile athletes you can get your hands on, and then find out what to do with them later.

Sometimes I wonder if Harbaugh does this so that his position players get to experience things from the other side. An OL who has lined up at DT will be better prepared mentally for dealing with a DT because he's played the position a bit.

I've always said Onwenu looks more like DT than an OG, but we'll see how things play out. We're pretty thin at DT after this year, especially if the coaches want to keep Gary at SDE.

Doubt he plays this year at DT or OG...may as well get him reps at both for a few months and let things figure itself out.

I'd be interested to see how he compares to Q Washington and BWC.

Seeing the need for both positions next year, it wouldn't surprise me at all to see him get snaps to get ready for next year if they think he will seriously contribute in 2017.  We've heard talk about it for other guys like Long and Hudson, as well as the fact that they put Newsome in as the 6th OL last year.

The thing that scares us the most is that we know more about the DL due to the fact that 10+ guys will end up playing between four positions compared to only five playing five positions on the OL. There will be some set backs at both sides after this season regardless because of all the seniors. I honestly don't have a clue as to where I would like him to play, so this is where we have to understand that the coaching staff knows the needs of this team better than we do. Wherever he plays, I'm sure he will end up being very good. I always thought he was one of our biggest recruiting wins in the 2016 class. Hope I see him blow up some fools this season.

Yeah, he just cratered the middle of the line and destroyed the RB.  I kinda like that...  I really dn't care where he plays because Harbaugh.  Wherever he lines up on gameday is the place he will make the most difference on the field while helping the team.

Cross training him so he can step in O or D line if needed.

Fullback possible on short & goal also. He will clear a path.

that while they are trying to find out who is going to be the center, they put Onwenu on the demo team right across from the potential Center candidates and none of them could consistantly block him. While the first team Nose is getting blocked by the potential Center candidates. We may have found a nose guard by accident , Or, they know they are getting enough O linemen silently commited through recruiting and they tried him there to see what he (Onwenu) could do. Ok that was two guesses. I have no good sources and this is purely wild guesses.
