One of the most SEC things ever

Mods, feel free to delete if you feel this fits the "politics" topic. Mississippi is literally trying to legislate how long the NCAA has to complete an investigation.

“The measure would force the NCAA to deliver its official Notice of Allegations within six months of the day it sends a school a preliminary letter of inquiry. If the sports governing body does not hold a hearing and hand out punishments within one year, the state would fine the NCAA $10,000 a day until a final ruling is made.”

I wrote up a big post comparing this to me buying a woman dinner with the obvious follow up.

But, then I realized I didn't ever want to see Bolivia. Then I realized I was married. Then I realized I was old.

Basically, I started this post laughing and now I'm in the corner sucking my thumb and crying.

Good luck trying to e force this one, Mississippi. The NCAA has a lot of problems, but trying to bully them to be "better" because your flagship school screwed up isn't going to be a positive.

And the FOIA law in Georgia the SEC is taking matters in its own hands. How about the Michigan legislature passes a bill legalizing satellite camps and spring break practices where ever Harbaugh desires

...Ole Miss would be screwed.  The NCAA likely would've given them some type of sanctions over a year ago, before the Tunsil incident, and then started a new investigation which could've led them to being a repeat offender while currently under some sanctions.  Am I missing something or did Jim Bob Lawmaker not think this through.

Actually, you see this kind of crap in every state. Legislators everywhere are more than happy to introduce nonsense bills that will go nowhere just to play to the locals outrage du jour. This proposal is patently illegal, so if it goes anywhere it will be worth notice. Otherwise, meh.

Agree on legislature doing this as a stunt. Don't think this would be illegal though. The NCAA has a presence in Mississippi and would therefore be under their jurisdiction, especially if they need boots on the ground to investigate. Further, the law can easily be written to not violate the equality/universality concept ( i.e you can't call out a specific private organization in the law and only enforce against them). Craft the law such that any private organization investigating a public university must pay a fine.

I'm sure this will encourage them to act with mercy towards ole miss when the punishment is handed out in well under a year anyway

Systematic rape of kids is one thing, challenging the CBAA sovereignty is another. I expect the death penalty for this one

Thought it was going to be a leaked photo of Nick Saban kissing his cousin while handing a 5* recruit an envelope of money

just one of thousands of ridiculous and meaningless (but attention grabbing) bills that will be filed in various state legislatures this session... that will never even make it out of committee

So basically they're saying...we'll hide and pay off our dirt for 6 months and you won't find anything...so either your investigation will be ineffective, inconclusive or we'll just get off free.

Nice one, SEC. Fucking Cheaters.
