they're built so differently but I'd say yes (so far). The spread hadn't become what it is today yet so that '06 team (more for '97) mostly played teams that lined it up and went at you. No constant motions, hurry up, hyperspread teams to face. This defense has seen almost nothing but very open spread offenses that I think the '06 defense would have been susceptible to. I admittedly have PTSD from the last decade but I'm about ready to say this could be the best defense I've seen at UM. 3 straight games of goose eggs in modern CFB, AGAINST ANYONE, is crazy. Almost 4 games if not for a heroic couple of late throws by Oregon State. The PTSD is slowly fading and I know this is the Super Bowl for msu but I haven't felt like we even have a chance in years. I do now. I'll leave it at that as I'm going to avoid gloating. It's a game that could change the tide of the State of Michigan CFB Saturday. We have to be ready because they will be. MD would happily lose every other game as long as he beat UM. 1-11 and he'd issue rings and shit. They think we're soft. They don't even hide it anymore. We have to prove we aren't.

Football shouldn't bring this much joy, especially in perspective of what's important, but this is something else.

When the crowd chanted "Defense!" that was incredible.

Harbaugh is worth the money and if the last 7 years had to be to get him here, so be it.

My measured take: Wormley is better than Steele. Glasgow is better than Messner. Henry is better than Branch. RJS is better than Woodley. Morgan is better than Harris. Bolden is better than Gold. Clark is better than Law. Hill is better than Tripp. 22 is better than Ray. Lewis is better than Woodson. Peppers is better than Jesus.

Oregon St scored in the 1st quarter. Apart from UNLV's garbage time score, opposing offenses now have 19 straight quarters of not being able to do anything whatsoever.

Ore St had 59 yards rushing and 79 passing, UNLV 92/143, BYU 50/55, Maryland 29/76, and now Northwestern 38/130.

Lewis is having the best season of any M defender since Woodson. That includes Brandon Graham.

Alabama 2012 had 5 consecutive halves of shutout football. That team went on to win the national championship. Michigan just completed 6 consecutive halves of shutout football. Woo. Edit: Per ESPN

You know what's cray?  I've watched Lewis' pick 6 seven times now and still have no idea what the fuck happened.  It was actually a pretty good throw by the QB.

Except for the part where he threw it within a mile of Lewis, of course.
