michigan connection to illinois v. kent state: starting right guard for kent state,(76) chase vanhoef, is the son of a former U of M player.
interestingly, the #2 QB for the illini is the son of one of my very best friends. unless the illini find some offense i am guessing he's going to get to play today.

Haskins looks very good, but OSU's "defense" hasn't been much of a test. It remains to be seen what will happen when he's pressured or has to fit his throws into a tight window.
September 1st, 2018 at 1:08 PM ^
We already saw one when he fit one into a tight window against Michigan last year. He has a strong arm
September 1st, 2018 at 2:01 PM ^
I mean he killed Michigan’s defense
September 1st, 2018 at 2:09 PM ^
Did you watch last years 2nd half of The Game? The D Train made a couple tight window NFL throws. He's got a rocket of an arm. A couple times today he just needs to put a little more air under the football.
September 1st, 2018 at 1:07 PM ^
Don’t give Haskins too much praise yet. Any QB can look good against a low end defense like Oregon State’s.
September 1st, 2018 at 1:12 PM ^
Its their system that is superior to everyone else. It doesnt matter who the qb is anyone can succeed in an meyer offense. He mayb a filthy liar and an asshole but hes one hell of a coach
September 1st, 2018 at 1:21 PM ^
Well it’s basically Rich Rod’s zone read with some tweaks, like what Auburn runs. Meyer has credited Rich Rod for the base of this offense and its effectiveness.
And as an aside, while I’m glad Rich Rod is no longer here, I never understood the mentality by some Michigan fans that Michigan should never run the spread. All one has to do is watch the 2007 game against Oregon to see how effective it can be.
September 1st, 2018 at 1:13 PM ^
I see what you are saying, but
He look pretty good against our defense too..
September 1st, 2018 at 1:18 PM ^
That remains to be seen.
September 1st, 2018 at 1:24 PM ^
Nobody tell him about the second half of Michigan/OSU
September 1st, 2018 at 2:06 PM ^
It wasn’t a blowout, fyi. I know about it. You make it sound as if they ran the score up 40 pts on us.
September 1st, 2018 at 1:15 PM ^
i wanna see that defense though. OSU defense has never been elite and always gives up big plays every year. We need to out score them but we wont win if we cant score 30 points you can guarentee that
September 1st, 2018 at 1:10 PM ^
dilly dilly
September 1st, 2018 at 5:02 PM ^
STFU
Those are the dumbest commercials for the worst beer.
September 1st, 2018 at 1:11 PM ^
OSU will have their test week 3. This game means nothing.
September 1st, 2018 at 1:13 PM ^
TCU? OSU will win by 30 points
September 1st, 2018 at 1:13 PM ^
Strange assumption.
September 1st, 2018 at 1:59 PM ^
I agree with your post.
September 1st, 2018 at 1:13 PM ^
Texas: Not back.
September 1st, 2018 at 1:26 PM ^
Oh yes they are; back to the hot garbage they've been
September 1st, 2018 at 1:13 PM ^
Illinois is losing to a bad MAC team.
Lovie is not looking so hot.
September 1st, 2018 at 1:18 PM ^
Doesn’t help that he has six starters out, fyi.
September 1st, 2018 at 1:25 PM ^
Kent State went 2-10 last year. Illinois still has a large talent advantage.
September 1st, 2018 at 1:32 PM ^
I would respectfully submit that Lovie had recruited like hot garbage and we don’t have firm evidence that there is much of a talent gap with a MAC team at all. Either way it’s an embarrassment and he’s responsible.
September 1st, 2018 at 1:46 PM ^
It's sort of amazing, but since Smith has been there Illinois has only out-recruited two B1G teams (NW and Rutgers), and just barely stand that. They should still be better than Kent State, but the line is pretty thin.
September 1st, 2018 at 1:24 PM ^
Texas stinks folks!!
September 1st, 2018 at 1:26 PM ^
Will Illinois (our biggest rival) ever win the big ten east? Good god that program is atrocious
September 1st, 2018 at 1:27 PM ^
Is it because of the "Muck Fichigan" shirts? I'm going to need a chart to keep track of all of our biggest rivals.
September 1st, 2018 at 1:28 PM ^
Not without realignment...
September 1st, 2018 at 1:28 PM ^
I have a hard time believing that Illinois is a big ten team right now.
September 1st, 2018 at 1:30 PM ^
Christ... Bosa is everywhere in this game.
September 1st, 2018 at 1:31 PM ^
Once again, Maryland is Texas’ kryptonite.
September 1st, 2018 at 1:33 PM ^
Maryland, of course, should be a disaster right now. That Texas is getting plowed like a low-major is a pretty big alarm in Austin.
September 1st, 2018 at 1:32 PM ^
The Bosa Heisman hype train will be in full force after week one.
September 1st, 2018 at 2:01 PM ^
I don't know about that, but Nick is a game changer. Just like Charles Woodson was for ichigan.
September 1st, 2018 at 2:27 PM ^
You Missed the M in gaMe, fyi.
September 1st, 2018 at 4:47 PM ^
He also forgot the M in Mr Charles Woodson
September 1st, 2018 at 1:32 PM ^
dont worry if Texas loses they'll still move up in the rankings
September 1st, 2018 at 1:33 PM ^
another michigan connection to the illinois kent state game which i failed to note: that #2 QB, matt robinson, is the nephew of greg robinson (YTGR), mark robinson (stanford wide receiver) and his own father was also a QB at U of Pacific.
if the illini struggle much more on offense, i'm guessing matt sees the field and lights it up. the kid is a gunslinger, fast, smart, and ran this exact offense all through his high school career.
September 1st, 2018 at 1:34 PM ^
So Maryland isn't just beating Texas, they're straight up destroying them
September 1st, 2018 at 1:43 PM ^
As a B1G fan, do you root for or against Maryland in the OOC? I want to root against them because of their crappy coaches-don’t want the coaches to be rewarded with wins and contracts etc, but then it’s easy to want to just root for the players as a way to honor their teammate.
Actually, maybe this is an easier call...I am rooting for the players.
September 1st, 2018 at 1:52 PM ^
As a Michigan fan, Michigan is the only B1G team that I root for.
September 1st, 2018 at 2:01 PM ^
As a Michigan fan, I recognize that conference perception is a HUGE determining factor in which teams are selected for the playoffs and the need for the B1G to do well in their OOC games so I cheer for every B1G team because doing so is cheering for Michigan by proxy.
September 1st, 2018 at 2:21 PM ^
Disagree. If Michigan takes care of their business it doesn’t matter what the rest of the B1G does.
September 1st, 2018 at 1:40 PM ^
Illinois down 17-3 at the half to.....kent st. is there a worse big ten athletic department right now in all sports other than illinois? Hell even rutgers aint gonna be that bad this season
September 1st, 2018 at 1:44 PM ^
Michigan State has worst athletic department on lockdown for a while.
September 1st, 2018 at 6:51 PM ^
With THEEEE Ohio State University running a close second.
September 1st, 2018 at 1:54 PM ^
Illinois hasn't killed anyone, enabled a pedophile, enabled a serial rapist, or enabled a domestic abuser enabler.
September 1st, 2018 at 1:41 PM ^
Oregon State won one game last year and will be lucky to match that win total this season. Eight teams scored 40+ on them, two over 50 & Oregon scored 69. Their only win was by 3 vs Portland St. Ohio State is good but this team is complete garbage. Might be the worst D1 team in the nation.
