Noon games open thread

And we're opening with Dave Pasch, in the booth, without his color man, running down the timeline of Urban Meyer's issues. Talking about off-the-field stuff, clearly putting that out front.

michigan connection to illinois v. kent state: starting right guard for kent state,(76) chase vanhoef, is the son of a former U of M player.

interestingly, the #2 QB for the illini is the son of one of my very best friends.  unless the illini find some offense i am guessing he's going to get to play today.

Haskins looks very good, but OSU's "defense" hasn't been much of a test.  It remains to be seen what will happen when he's pressured or has to fit his throws into a tight window.

Did you watch last years 2nd half of The Game?  The D Train made a couple tight window NFL throws.  He's got a rocket of an arm.  A couple times today he just needs to put a little more air under the football.

Well it’s basically Rich Rod’s zone read with some tweaks, like what Auburn runs. Meyer has credited Rich Rod for the base of this offense and its effectiveness.

And as an aside, while I’m glad Rich Rod is no longer here, I never understood the mentality by some Michigan fans that Michigan should never run the spread. All one has to do is watch the 2007 game against Oregon to see how effective it can be.

another michigan connection to the illinois kent state game which i failed to note:  that #2 QB, matt robinson, is the nephew of greg robinson (YTGR), mark robinson (stanford wide receiver) and his own father was also a QB at U of Pacific.

if the illini struggle much more on offense, i'm guessing matt sees the field and lights it up.  the kid is a gunslinger, fast, smart, and ran this exact offense all through his high school career.

As a B1G fan, do you root for or against Maryland in the OOC?  I want to root against them because of their crappy coaches-don’t want the coaches to be rewarded with wins and contracts etc, but then it’s easy to want to just root for the players as a way to honor their teammate.

Actually, maybe this is an easier call...I am rooting for the players.

As a Michigan fan, I recognize that conference perception is a HUGE determining factor in which teams are selected for the playoffs and the need for the B1G to do well in their OOC games so I cheer for every B1G team because doing so is cheering for Michigan by proxy.

Oregon State won one game last year and will be lucky to match that win total this season.  Eight teams scored 40+ on them, two over 50 & Oregon scored 69.  Their only win was by 3 vs Portland St.  Ohio State is good but this team is complete garbage.  Might be the worst D1 team in the nation.
