Nico Collins with strong words of support for Jim Harbaugh

"If you think he’s not the right coach, you’re wrong," Collins said. "He’s a great coach. He’s a coach that played in the NFL, coached in the NFL, and knows exactly how to coach his players. If you want a great team to go to and a great coach to be coached by, go to the University of Michigan

Nico is a high-character guy, a talented athlete and someone who loves this school and this team. He wore the Winged Helmet at the Senior Bowl and will say "Nico Collins, Michigan" in MNF intros.

I'll be rooting for him at the next level.

Thank you Nico.  And thank you Jimmy for running a class program and for doing what's right for the players.  I still remember the buffoonery that was the "Fire Beilein" threads on this blog. #johnbeileinappreciationthread    I'm guessing we'll have a few CoachJim4UM appreciation threads in years to come

Thanks for the insight Nico. We have angry internet dudes around here that would know a lot more about the situation than a current player. They've performed extensive Mgopsychoanalysis on Jim from their 4k TV's and they've informed me that he's lost his marbles.

Well he's out of the program now and doesn't have any incentive to say these things if he doesn't want to. So he must mean it.

I'll take his word for it over people like myself who don't have a real lick of an idea of what's going on within the program.

Nico was probably put on the spot with a question and responded with a high character answer.  It doesn't necessarily mean that he believes what he said.  And if that is the case I respect Nico even more for following the age old advice to "criticize privately, commend publicly."

There are very few things more annoying or distasteful than former players publicly bashing their program.

JH got it right.  Took awhile but now a staff of young ace recruiters with a few possible successors.    This is the way back.

Campbell might be a good coach but not better than JH and his staff wouldnt be able to recruit better than this new one.

JH with ace recruiting staff is far better than Campbell and his guys.

Not sure why people can’t understand that from a player’s perspective, what makes a great coach can be very different than a fan’s perspective.

player cares about development - within their craft and as a human being. Winning is nice and makes things a lot more fun, but probably comes second to most players given the choice of one or the other.

fan cares about winning. A subset of fans care about winning and doing it in a way that includes integrity (however an individual wants to define it).

A player can love a coach and be grateful for his leadership while fans want to burn the same coach on a stake because it does not translate to wins.

This quote can be taken as "He's really good at preparing players for the NFL".

...and here is the thing, I don't care about that one iota outside it helping win college football games. I'll take a consistent 11 wins with horrible NFL production over a consistent 10 wins and great NFL production.

Couldn't care less what a player says - good or bad - its a subjective opinion.

What isn't subjective is the record on the field...So far Harbaugh has fallen short of expectations this board had when he was hired.

We will see whether these coaching changes alter that trajectory on the field.
