Next weekend's B1G schedule

Somehow, our esteemed conference schedule maker managed to give six teams a bye next Saturday.  And then these are the four matchups we're getting:

Michigan at Maryland

Rutgers at Illinois

Nebraska at Purdue

Northwestern at Indiana (prime time!)

Is that the worst slate of games in league history?

That's really not the point man.

It's more that, a lot of us like watching Michigan and other teams play over the course of a Saturday.  There are three timeslots and Michigan only plays in one of them.  It's cool when there are good games in the other timeslots, too.  It's also nice, during one of the million TV timeouts in our game, to see what's going on in another game.

let’s put it this way, by the time sharty plays Illinois in two weeks they will have scored a total of 7 points in the previous 4 weeks.

The funny thing is you could legitimately ask if ANY of those weeks were byes. #dumpstersburnbrighterthancouches

43% of the conference on bye.  But for comparison, 40% of the Big XII is on bye as well next week.  So is 28% of the SEC.

14 week schedule - 12 games for each team - it is what it is.

1997 had a 14 week schedule and 11 games for each team.  Everyone had 3 byes!  Though for Michigan, it didn't feel like it, because their byes were weeks 1, 2 and 14.  But someone like Pittsburgh had their byes in weeks 5, 8 and 11.  So they had a mid-season 57 day stretch where they played 4 games.

We would have had a bye yesterday if we hadn't scheduled Notre Dame, in addition to the one we have on November 9.

So we were going to have a bye, then Maryland, then another bye.

Having 14 teams in this conference is really weird.

Looking further ahead, it looks like The Game will have no bearing on OSU's playoff spot.  It will already be wrapped up, assuming they take care of PSU at home the week before.  Even if they lose to Michigan, they are still in the playoffs as long as they win the B1G scrimmage against Minny, Iowa or Wisconsin.  OSU can lose to Michigan and still easily make the playoffs.  We can't even spoil their season.

So they did a poll on twitter   thousands of Buckeye fans voted.. the question: would you rather beat Michigan and NOT make the college football playoff OR Lose to Michigan but make the playoff ? well over 60/40 said beating Michigan .. I am a Buckeye .. and yes even the natty would have a bitter taste to it if we lose to UM
