MSU Ferguson: "There's so many things going on at the Univ than this Nassar thing."

Submitted by twohooks on

A Freep (sorry) via WVFN with Tim Staudt piece where Joel Ferguson adamantly stands behind Lou Ann Simon and claiming it took 10 minutes to decide of a Trustee meeting in support of LAS as President at MSU.

Ferguson talks about donors, sports, pervs and even cites Penn St unqualified to comment.

Still a sad and serious case but I found the ignorance appaling and noteworthy.

Seems to me that Michigan State University is run by idiots. Which is probably par for the course for them, and too many other institutions of so-called higher learning. Nonetheless, Lou Anna should either be fired or step down. What a disgrace.

In a thread the other day I called Mitch Lyons the worst of the bunch. But he is actually at least smart enough ( or a good enough politician) to call for new leadership, so he is clearly not the worst of the bunch. Reading these comments from Ferguson makes it pretty hard not to bestow that title on old Joel.
Remember to vote on these offices in the years to come. Don’t forget the bottom of the ballot!

"Senior people (at MSU) are not complicit in what this pervert did."

I assume that Kathie Klages does not qualify as "senior people".  Hope she likes the view from under the bus.

The whole PSU shame probably cost the school something approaching nine figures, all-in.  And there are ten times more victims here, and what appears to be a hell of a lot more complicity and looking away.  Led by President Don't Show-That-To Me.

Trustees Mitch Lyons and Brian Mosallam have refuted Ferguson's representation of the board meeting last week.

Here's Brian Mosallam:

"The absolute majority of the meeting was about Nasser and how to move forward including what a succession plan would look like, an independent review (AG) and the board seeking outside advice in exercising their indepedent oversight role."

These women are NOT going away because he wants to throw a little money at them. I hope by the time that this is over these women own all those new seats at Breslin.

And New York City had plenty of other shit going on when the WTCs collapsed, but the city clearly prioritized its problems and focused on that first.

What's your point, Mr. Trustee?

I'm quite sure he's calling out the NCAA as too incompetent to investigage or comment, not Penn State.  There are times to call out the NCAA for being incompetent. But right now, from your chair Mr. Ferguson, does not seem like the appropriate time to be calling anyone imcompetent.  You literally JUST said you're gonna throw money at rape victims so they'll be fine, and that Simon will absolutely stay because regardless of the rape culture that's bloomed under her watch, she's good at soliciting money from major donors. Just, wow.  What an idiot.

Ferguson also laughed at the idea of the NCAA investigating MSU.

"This is not Penn State," he said, referring to the Jerry Sandusky sex abuse scandal from several years ago. "They were dealing with their football program. ... They're smart enough to know they're not competent to walk in here on this."

"The young ladies who have been wronged by this person, I think that … they will ... you can never use money to make up for people’s pain and suffering, but there’s going to be something happening in their favor," he said.

Did it ever occur to this fuck-stick that maybe, just maybe, this was not the best time for him to go on record given the fact that the "Nassar thing" as he not so eloquently put it is blowing up before our eyes and ears.  Is he so naive and/or arrogant to think that his intierview with Tim Staudt will help move public opinion the way he wants.  If so, it is proof of his profound incompetence.

Why not just say no to the interview?  Pretty easy to simply and respectfully say, "now is not the time."  Clearly Ferguson feels his perspective is more important than the issue that is flat out kicking MSU's ass.

I will wander out onto thin ice and say one more time.  These were human beings abusing young women, not the entire University....I am saying that with much LESS confidence now than I have in other threads as the absurd comments keep pouring out of the highest offices of the place.

Shame.

Amongst a litany of other things, this is absolutely mind blowing. Even if they are lacking a moral compass, do they not read or watch the news? They should at least be able to glean from the reporting out there how completely deficient they have been. And their answer to the unquestioned worst thing to happen to their school is to spend 10mintues chatting before deciding to stay the course?!?

It seems the Simon apologists are using the same logic Penn State fans did in supporting Joe Paterno: "look at all the good things he did through the years," and "he didn't break any laws."

Also, why in the world is it taking the students this long to organize a protest?

Is to warn off the NCAA from investigating: “They are smart enough to know they are not competent to walk in here on this.” Everything he says (as eloquently stated by numerous posters above) is the height of arrogance, total lack of concern for victims, and will not end well for him. I am a Michigan voter, and will share what Trustee Ferguson has said with others to end his tenure at MSU. This university deserves much better than the sorry leadership it is currently stuck with.

Joel Ferguson's name should never appear with, near, or in the same sentence of any derivative of the word "Trust". He is tragically incompetent if not criminal. He needs 10 more points to be classified as an idiot.
