That's such a fun goal to watch. The kid and his team must feel great.

nice quick execution. too bad the stick was above the crossbar - No goal.

Was gonna post the same thing, but obviously still an awesome play.
Legg kept his stick below the crossbar for the entirety of the motion. Also, Michigan was on a PP IIRC. If he messes it up, the puck gets cleared.
Cool Story Bro: when returning to Michigan from model UN in NY, we saw that Minnesota hockey team dejected and waiting in the airport concourse. I was an arrogant prick back then but still knew better than to be a shithead to those guys. Still happy with that choice.

So the lacrosse style goal comes under both high stick rules. 1. It cannot be played above the stickhandler’s shoulders and 2. It can’t leave the stick above the cross bar.
In this case it doesn’t look like the stick rises above his own shoulders and, despite where the shaft of the stick is, my guess is that the refs determined, as they always do in this type of goal, that it had to leave the stick below the cross bar. That makes it legal.
We have gone over this type of goal in ref clinics and they compare it to a regular goal scored with a possible high stick. If the entire stick is above the crossbar with the exception of the toe of the blade, and that is what deflected the puck in, it’s a good goal. Basically, only the part of the stick that made contact with the puck has to be below the crossbar.

Was that an OT goal?

Yes - and kudos if you intended the double entendre

Damn impressive, especially scoring it while getting mugged by that defenseman.
Sure hope that guy (#8?) got banished to the penalty box.

The kid's name is Austin Burnevik. He's a sophomore at Totino-Grace.
My daughter was on a team with him in 6th grade. He averaged 5-6 goals a game. My favorite was one where he flicked the puck into the air and "batted" it into the net. It was unlike anything I've ever seen.

kids in Manhattan Beach, CA know it as "The Michigan".

Wouldnt that be a high stick since his went over the crossbar?

Looks like he also took an elbow to the throat area. Great goal, wonder how many times he practiced that maneuver?

Weird how the COVID doesn’t impact MN high school hockey players, but it’s keeping MI hockey players from playing games. Very selective virus.

Season was delayed from October 26 to January 4, first games were played January 14. Season is supposed to finish February 20, now will run to end of March (spring break cancelled!).
If we were all serious about stopping the virus, no kids would be playing sports. Alas, here we are, with over 440,000 dead.

Yeah, sorry, didn’t want to turn this into a covid discussion. Just interesting that MI kids can’t play, yet every state around us is playing. So...the teams that can go to the states around us.

Yeah, it's been weird. When we (MN) were in lockdown, hockey players would drive to Wisconsin, Iowa and South Dakota to get ice time and play in tourneys. I'm not sure that helped anything.
Hang in there. The end of this pandemic will be here soon....
