Michigan St Peach Bowl Rings

So Michigan St thought it was important to post the score of the Michigan vs Michigan St game on their peach bowl rings.

Sometimes insecurity is perfectly transparent. I weep for the reasonable MSU sports fans. (They do exist, trust me.)

You know I felt great when we beat OSU. Like really f&*king great. Just because we won, and for no other reason or implication for the season. And even if we had been 8-4 and beat ohio state, I still would have felt great. So I understand Sparty, I really do. But in no world would it have been acceptable for me to put the HARBAUGH and the M-OSU score on my Outback Bowl ring or whatever game that Michigan team would have gone to.

WTF, Sparty. Do better.

I don’t blame them for putting the score on their rings.  Why wouldn’t they!? It is epic bragging rights for them.  It’s not like we have established dominance over the rivalry / state of Michigan.  It’s what Sparty is hanging their hat on and I totally get it. I don’t like it, but I get it.

If you live in the Upper Midwest (especially in or near Michigan) you've probably seen "Spartans Will" ( https://brand.msu.edu/storytelling/spartans-will ) in several places.

Like most colleges, MSU is aspirational. Good business, right?

Even if you don't live in the Midwest you've probably heard / read "Tuck comin'!" MSU sports are aspirational, too. Some of their fans believe that $9+M / year for "Tuck" will eventually get them back to peak Dantonio (and then some). Who knows? Maybe it will.

Putting the score of a single game (even an important one) on your bowl ring basically screams "You know what? Forget that national focus. We're actually provincial. We really don't give a #$@% about any games other than Michigan. We'd be content to just *own* the state."

It flies in the face of their other messaging. I get it, too, but it's pathetic.

They won the game that matters most to them. They earned the right to gloat about it. I know I'd be doing the same thing if I were in their shoes.

All I can say is Michigan won the game that matters most to them. One that matters (in my mind) infinitely more. They won the Big Ten, they made the CFP and were in position to play for it all. I will happily lose to MSU every single year if it means Michigan finds itself beating OSU, winning the B1G and making the CFP every year. That's how far down the totem pole they are to me in priorities.

In my mind, Michigan rendered that loss to MSU to be more or less irrelevant.

For me, that’s the biggest point from the Michigan perspective.
The loss to MSU did nothing to change Michigans trajectory. We still beat OSU, won the BIG and would have played not-Cincinnati in the playoffs.
I was so fucking frustrated when Michigan lost that game, but now can just laugh about it.

Fact is, they have our number....until they don't.  And it sucks.  What pisses me off is the entire fandom knew early in season of our subsitution delays, and that MSU will be planning to exploit it.... I had even posted this exact thing...and MacDonald, as good of a coach he was,  didn't plan for it.

Tucker is 2-0 vs us. Until we beat them, they have it. I mean, look at how they win...with very unlikely events....over and over....  I take no pleasure in saying that... in fact, I'm livid thinking about it..... because Dantonio is a shithead, the stunts hes pulled... low character... and hes behind scenes... karma gonna catch up soon... this has to be the year.

You can't go around saying 42-27 all the time and then laugh at this. So I'm going to give sparty their props for beating us and continue to enjoy using 42-27 anytime someone says anything about osu. That is what makes rivalries fun.

its not the bragging rights, its whether or not you put them on a ring.  you guys do put your michigan scores (i think) on your ring, AFAIK we don't but if its the score vs. you-all, then i'm okay with it.  the point being is that beating sparty, while nice, doesn't come close to the enjoyment or significance of beating ohio.  we can throw darts about the why/how/cheating/yada yada all we want, but the bottom line is that your team has a heck of a program, SEC north, and it shows.

Both are wins, but if you think that a narrow, ref-aided win to secure third place in the division is on par with a dominating win to secure B1G title game and CFP appearances, then you are being intentionally obtuse.

They can say whatever they want, because the score is what goes into the history books, but those games are on completely different levels.  Similar to how UM and MSU exist on completely different levels.  And that is what chafes them so.

They can put whatever they want on their rings; it's a rivalry.  The fact UM's rings (I assume) will include more impressive accomplishments than a 4-point win at home is more relevant to me.

This is the most insecure move I've ever seen. Michigan put the Rutger score 20-13 on there big ten championship ring. It's a peach bowl ring, you idiot.

I'm happy (actually, for real) that both UM and MSU are satisfied with their seasons. That seems like an incredible rarity, and it's generally great for the state of Michigan that both major college football schools are seeing this level of success. Having the UM-MSU as a top ten nationally-televised matchup is a GREAT thing, and they absolutely should celebrate that win over us (even if it was cheapened considerably by the refs).

It still seems weird to print that on a ring, though (but also completely on brand for MSU).

this doesn't seem substantially different from the ohio state gold pants thing.  we're they're biggest rival, they're gonna crow when they beat us.
