Say you're in an art class, and everyone is painting pictures.  Everyone comes up with different designs using different colors, some are of course a little nicer looking than others.

And then there is this one kid that doesn't even put brush to canvas, leaves everything blank, and says, "It's tradition."

Then everyone falls all over themselves going, "Oooh yeah, tradition!  We love tradition!  Your painting is the best!"

It's a farce, people!  The emperor has no clothes!  Penn State actually has the WORST uniforms in football!  They are boring and ugly and uninspired.

If some other school started a new program today and decided not to use any color, any logos, any stripes or patterns or anything, we would all think it was a bad idea.  The only reason PSU gets a pass is because "tradition."  Well that's not good enough for me, and it's also a terrible excuse coming from someone that likes tradition so much that he puts Northwestern and their silly belly stripe ahead of a school with glorious uniforms AND the tradition to go with them.

You can thank the likes of Oregon and Maryland for making Penn State unis "cool".

I grew up in PA and people were embarrased by the Penn State away uni back in the day.  They wanted it changed.  But Paterno wanted it the way it was, so it stayed that way.

It's only as a counter-reaction to the over-the-top clown uniformz of teams like Oregon that the old-school plain boring unis like Penn State's and Alabama's have become "cool".

Like nerds with thick glasses, if you hang in there long enough, your day will come.

"Beauty in things exists in the mind which contemplates them."  David Hume (1711-1776)

Because we tend to view such matters as football uniforms through a maize and blue filter, we tend to think Michigan's is the iconic uniform in all of college football, which is fine, and who cares what anyone else thinks?

It is interesting to see hat Indiana's experiments with alternate helmets cost them so much in this otherwise weird poll (as we aren't #1 - that's why), but then again, when I see your team run onto the field and start singing "The Candyman Can" from "Willie Wonka", that helmet probably should cost you some serious style points.

Wheeeeeeeee offseason!

I actually like NW's uniforms, so I don't mind them being near the top. And his take on Michigan laid into Adidas' job with them, so maybe he'd rank them higher once Nike gets it done.

But #1 PSU and #2 Iowa? You've got to be kidding me? Two of the worst uniforms in the conference. Boring and bland. Not classic (like I'd call UM's), just not good.

But I don't care to get worked up over it because the guy has a job to do and they probably told him to write a fluff piece during the most down time of the year for college football.

Indiana looks good Imo.

Used to like Penn St back in the day.

Bama looks good Imo.

Sometimes even those heathen buckeyes uni's look good.

Mich home are the best. A change of the away's uni's this year to make them a bit more styling, would be good Imo.

ugh

Every July we get these "best of" threads. Look, Michigan is the best of everything, so let's just leave it at that.

Illinois?

They look like they realized Indiana wasn't using the block I any longer & just had to have it.  Because who doesn't want to be mistaken for Indiana?

This article is a fucking travesty. Our uniforms are one of mankinds's most beautiful creations.

This article is cick bait...and maybe is a way to give the little schools love.  Iowas unis are cool but they are a direct rip off of the Pittsburgh Steelers by Hayden Frey in the 70s when he wanted to instill a new cuture on a bad Iowa program.

NW over Michigan?  As Jean-Paul would say "Pleeeasss mon....pleeesasss."

The best Unis in the Big Ten are

1) Michigan

2) Ohio State

3) Nebraska

4) Penn State

5) Wisconsin

6) Iowa

7) Indiana

8) Purdue

9) Northwestern

10) Illinois

11) Minnesota

12) Michigan State

13) Maryland

14) Rutgers

Peace out.

I didn't agree with the writer other than few of his picks I'll agree with number 14 Maryland and there crazy flag jersey Oregon of the East with Under Armour. 5. Iowa, 4. MSU, 3. PSU, 2. OSU, 1. Michigan with that iconic helmet and very classic jersey what more can I say. Hail To The Victors.

I knew not to go any further. I mean it's only been recognized, and I'll admit a lot of it has to do with strength of helmet - as the best uni in cfb for years. I recall reading (love how some of the old sportswrtiters played with the language) of a recap of a WVU vs. UM game that would have had to been written after Crisler arrived. He wrote somehthing like, "Every player on the Michigan team was above 7 foot tall and it was recognized their tremendous strength was derived from their magnificent helmets." It was a Morganstown sportwriter so I'm not sure if they practiced satire back then or if that was a real thing.
