Miami - Where to Stay?

Submitted by UMich2016 on December 7th, 2021 at 11:57 AM

I'm sure a bunch of us are looking into flights and lodging for the Orange Bowl.  For those familiar with the Miami area, could you provide some advice in terms of where to stay for 3-4 nights in the Miami area for the Orange Bowl?

Specifically I am looking for a more relaxed, less crowded beach town that I can stay close to or on the beach but still within striking distance to the game.

Any advice would be appreciated.  Thanks.

As a Miami resident, I'd strongly suggest staying away from downtown Miami, Brickell, and Miami Beach (not just South Beach) unless you're looking to party while you're here (and spend another arm and a leg in food/drink).

My suggestion is to stay further north if you're looking for calmer. Fort Lauderdale is calmer than Miami, but still pretty busy itself. Hollywood and Hollywood Beach are closer to the stadium and are generally calmer beaches. Sunny Isles Beach is worth checking out too.

As a general rule here in Miami/South Florida, if there's a bridge involved, ie.- crossing the intercoastal, add another 10-15 minutes to your drive just in case.

If you're looking to stay a bit away from the Miami insanity, you could center your search in Aventura.  That will show you hotels up and down the beach that are all in a calmer area, and all are a short drive to the stadium, close enough to Miami and Miami Beach, and also close enough to Fort Lauderdale.  Hotels are looking very expensive for that time window, but that is what it is.

Also, I  strongly recommend to fly into and out of Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood Int'l Airport, and DO NOT use the Miami Airport it is a shit hole.

Finally, this is a pretty large region with terrible public transit, so you may want to rent a car.  If you do, drive with your head on a swivel!
