M Quarterback discussion on Jukes youtube channel

Hey folks - I just noticed a video on the Jukes youtube channel with the title:  the most IMPACTFUL quarterback battle in college football.

Yes.  they are talking about Cade vs JJ

I know this discussion has been beat to death on this board but I decided to post for anyone interested.  I like to encourage outlets to have more B1G/ Michigan content.

Their discussion is in line with the consensus on this board, namely that Cade will probably start but at some point in the season, we will need to switch to JJ because he has the higher upside.  They think JJ should start from day 1.

The host, Lucy, is an Iowa alum, so she will occasionally discuss the B1G.  I think she has good insights and is pretty objective.  She is still getting over the B1G conference championship game so please don't rub that in if you do check out the video and post a comment :-)

I could not care less about what the fans and the talking heads think or say. My concern is what the coaches think and how they respond. The problem with assessing the QB position is that there is a significant difference between practice conditions and playing under live fire. In this Michigan scenario, where the second and third string is afforded so little playing time, the reality is that the coaches cannot possibly know who the best game-time player is.  Here, Cade now has a full season under his belt and while he needs and deserves good, early season PT to elevate his play JJ and Davis also need and deserve significant opportunity. If in the first three games Cade is getting 95% of the snaps deep into the fourth quarter with a score of 52-3...I will be at my wits end.

Honestly whoever starts, I'm happy. JJ certainly has the upside and looks like he can be the guy who can win you the big games, but you really can't argue with Cade's results, either. Beat OSU, won the B1G. He'll also have another year in the system so he'll be that much more comfortable with knowing what he needs to do, and with Ronnie Bell being back who knows how much more he'll be able to air it out. He certainly seemed to favor him on the deep ball in the WMU game last year, and there is no disputing that losing the leader in the WR room hampered Michigan's abilities in the passing game to at least some degree.

All things being equal, Cade is the starter unless JJ shows he is demonstrably better. Which is possible, but if they're neck and neck, you go with the guy who's gotten you to where you are right now.

Realistically, both of these guys are going to play anyway. Even if Cade starts, JJ is going to get meaningful snaps. This is far and away the best QB situation Harbaugh has had, coming into a season, since he's started here. So Michigan should be in good shape at the QB position this year regardless, barring any major injuries. Even if Cade starts this year, JJ will have his time to take command.
