?[LOCKED] Alabama Superfan Dies of Covid
Luke Ratliff was in attendance at the UCLA - Alabama game before returning to Tuscaloosa and subsequently getting hospitalized
I have no idea if there is any potential for contacts to be traced back to athletes but it certainly seems possible. Based on a few pictures I've seen it doesn't appear Ratliff was big on masking up
[Edit: It looks very clear to me that Ratliff had his mask below his chin in the photo. May the young man rest in peace, condolences to his family] -Rob F 12:45 am (I will post further notes in the mod sticky thread)

Why do you sound so happy about it?
Edit: fine, I'll own up to it if I was out of line. Just not sure this random covid fatality deserved its own thread.

wat?
What in the world makes you think I'm happy about this. It's tragic. I've re-read my op repeatedly. Nothing 'happy' in there
Relevant? Sure. This potentially impacts UM and games currently in progress

This place is much better without a lot of those posters. Especially Special Agent. Guy wasn’t even on here to talk sports.

Hey, we're 13 months after the point that the pandemic was common knowledge and that idiot was in a public venue without a mask.
How many people did he infect along the way?
No tears from me -- he was an idiot.

Aren't you the guy who recently bragged about having taken tests for others at UM when a student in violation of the student code of conduct?
Yes, you are.
The guy was reckless and paid the consequences. Importantly, he put others at risk along the way.

What does that have to do with you celebrating another person’s death because you disagreed with their choices? Do you celebrate when someone dies of an OD? Or how about those idiots who die of lung cancer because they smoke? You’re a fucking asshole.

Smoker don't put people at risk like immature dipchits who decide to ignore the advice of experts on epidemiology.
He got what his behavior earned him and he put a lot of others at risk.
My guess is you're probably just as reckless as he was.

i have no idea what kind of sick world you live in where you can equate helping teammates with a test 40 years ago with a guy dying a young death. seriously, seek help. also, this might help you walk back that awful, evil disposition you possess. apologize for your horrible attitude.

I point it out because you mentioned it in the same post where you identified yourself as a hoaxer and your piss poor judgement has been a thing for, as you now admit, forty years.
That timeline, BTW, puts us at UM at the same time.
I'll save my tears for the people he infected.

seriously. you need help. not joking, not making fun or mocking. the darkness in your heart and the strange joy you are taking and now trying to justify it when you get rightly called out on it, man, you need to see someone. all can be redeemed, and this is the season for it. wishing you well.

So this post does serve as some sort of victory lap for you and others to proclaim your superiority over those who sit, socially distanced, in their own row of seats in a massive arena to watch a sporting event? I guess that was my issue with it from the jump.

CDC guidelines call for him to have been wearing a mask -- he wasn't.
You've proven yourself to be someone who believes the pandemic is a hoax -- f you and your idiotic brethren.
I was laid off from my excellent job and haven't seen my wife for over a year due to CV and dumb chits like you -- f off.
A close friend of mine in A2 is an MD and has a PhD in epidemiology. He's at the top of his field pn a global basis and thinks people like you, and the idiotic Bama fan, are at the heart of the problem.

Nice try, hoaxer.
She's in Japan looking after her elderly parents. The last time I saw her was with our kids and their significant others at our place on the Kona coast last March just when the chit was hitting the fan.
She can't leave and reenter Japan without quarantining at an airport hotel for two weeks in Osaka. Not to mention, I don't want to put herself at risk taking three flights to get to Michigan.
Japan is handling the pandemic the right way.
They have had less than 7,000 deaths in a nation with a population of 127M living in the habitable space 20% the size of Cali.
So f you and your dig -- we're 34 years into a very blissful marriage. You should be so lucky.

And myself, my wife, my sister and father are all front line workers who have been keeping society moving through our respective sectors. I've never claimed that it isn't real, but when someone rushes to highlight someone's untimely death as some sort of mask morality soapbox opportunity, I take issue with that. Even moreso when we have almost half our states without a mask mandate and millions of people taking reasonable amounts of risk every day. Keep doing what you need to do to put yourself on a pedestal over your fellow humans, though.

You've made many a claim that it wasn't serious at all -- too late to walk that back now that we're likely well over 600K CV deaths in the US.

In all seriousness--it sounds from this like you're dealing with some rough real-world shit right now. A message board--this one especially--is not a good place to work it out. You should talk to someone. A counsellor, a friend, someone out there who has your back.

Clarence, I'm not sure if this advice was meant for me or some of the more unhinged posters in the covid threads, but either way I'm glad AJ Hinch has the Tigers kicking ass so far. I hope we can continue to jive well on this board despite our different outlooks on covid.

I talk to a lot of people -- no problem there -- by the same token, there are many here who need to be called out for their rampant stupidity. The Bama fan got what he deserved and it's pretty obvious he put many others at risk.

Maybe you could share your post with your mom tomorrow at Easter dinner. She would be so proud.
For people who want to know more about this young man, other than OP’s opinion based on a few pictures, this column captures that he was also a fan, someone’s child, and a friend to many people.

Sad, 23 is far too young. Condolences to this young man's family.
His parent's lost their son. He could have gotten Covid many ways. I'm not really comfortable in judging his lifestyle choices or inferring causation.
