Lloyd Carr

First of all CONGRATULATIONS to Coach Harbaugh and everyone associated.  You are fine examples of how to manage life and aspire others to be better human beings.  This championship run has certainly inspired me deeply.  Thank You!

I've been a fan since 1969, and while reflecting on this amazing journey, I became curious about Coach Carr's whereabouts, since he was our last National Championship Football Coach.  I was hoping to get some perspective on how he is doing, but I have no real connections.  Haven't heard or seen him much in the media during this amazing run of Team 144.  He seems to stay in the background although he means so much to this University and fanbase.  I was wondering if he's made any public appearances or shared any thoughts or emotions with the media lately.  He's such an important legend for the university and program.  Hoping for the best.  Go Blue!

The story between Lloyd Carr and Michigan Football (as a whole 'thing' incl. the program itself, the community around it, the fanbase, the media covering it etc.) has been complicated for a long time. It's like he's turned into a subject that if you bring it up, it will lead to cleared throats and awkward looks.

My interaction with Carr is that he is a great person who will be polite and respectful to people he doesn't know and he and his wife would take time away from vacations to chat and take pics.

He is also a reader. He is much more intelligent than most Michigan fans would believe.

Although I pulled my hair out in regards to some of his coaching philosophies (I think Ferentz mirrored his coaching style off him but with less talent)  he was a great coach overall.

I liked how Lloyd would have a dictionary outside his office and required players to look up a new word and then use it in a sentence when they wanted to see him in his office.

When he retired at 122-40 (75.3% wins), Bill Martin mentioned that our overall school Win % went up under him (was about 75.0% before he arrived).

We could have done so much worse promoting an assistant when Mo had his one really bad night. I was at his first game (18-17 comeback vs. UVA) in 1995 with my dad. Plus saw the wins over Ohio 1995, 97, 03.

Lloyd looks in rough shape.

Crazy to think that I always saw him as this somewhat elderly man even when he was coach. But he retired at only 2 years older than Harbaugh.

He points out the parallels of the 1997 team and the 2023 team where they were taken over by the players themselves that were tired of losing, and bonded together to become a mature cohesive unit.
