We used the young Rothlesberger on Gentry, but to me Costello is a mix between a Miami (OH) Rothlesberger and a Joe Flacco.
That said, despite the hype he's still got some work to do. He's inconsistent in his mechanics and he throws off his back foot relying on his arm too much for my liking. He'll definitely take some changes.
I think his release can be a little slow at times.
Costello's ceiling is also unbelievable.
I like Brandon Peters too, very nice accuracy inside of 15 yards. Plenty of arm strength inside 15. But doesn't have the deep ball arm strength Costello has. When he throws over 20, he has to put his entire body into the throw. Kind of like a little kid trying to hit a halfcourt shot.
May be more college ready that Costello even right now. However, I'm guess Costello has a bigger school and harder comp.
Both have plenty of size. Both have plenty to love about them.
Give me Costello because he can redshirt and be that perfect RS Sophomore type starter.
IMO, right now, they're about even...but in 3-4 years, Costello will clearly be the better QB.

to be the first on campus. I think we will have a commit soon and it might be Costello. He knows the spot could disappear fast.

damn, i youtube'd him and he looks like a freaking tank. rocket arm too. and touch on his passes.

He's also looking to commit in the next month. That would be a great start to the 2016 recruiting class, especially to get more kids out west.

thanks, prime example of the pretentious, stale grammar police on this site - not even close to amusing, just nitpicking a perfectly reasonable comment rather than contributing anything of substance to thread / topic.
and if that type nonsense somehow solicits laughs or amuses, thats even worse

of attacking instead of reading. Another thing we sometimes have too much of on this site.

His friends. We need that SoCal pipeline. I know this has been discussed before but do people actually use the NorCal/SoCal thing?
February 12th, 2015 at 9:36 PM ^
He's good friends with Dylan Crawford(highly rated WR) and I hope they come in a package deal. If we can also land Rashan Gary, Harbaugh would be well on his way to building a monster class.

I think Gary has said that he won't be committing until at or near signing day. So maybe he commits before then but I doubt it would be this spring or summer.
I wonder if Costello wants to be sure he is in before Peters (who is visiting April 4th btw).

Castello lost a spot last year by waiting, I wounder how much that will play into how long he takes to decide.

No, Costello straight told Hoke he wanted to commit. Hoke said he should wait and think about it, the staff offered deWeaver a few days later, and that was that. It was dumb as hell.

It does seem to point to good news. I still can't believe the old staff did that, though. It's not like Costello has since blown up. He's been regarded since at least his sophomore season.

Yeah, I have a hard time believing the timing of this is a coincidence. Hopefully it wasn't.
February 12th, 2015 at 11:31 PM ^
I hope you are right. I never want a California kid visiting in February/March when you can have him visit in the summer. But if he initiates a visit this early, then I'm all for it.

Excellent news. Harbaugh will take all the quarterbacks.

I would have been cool if he waited until February was over....but I will take what I can get

I wounder if Harbaugh will use the kids to recruit like Hoke did. Seemed like that was something that was emphasized with Hokes recruiting classes.

I bet the staff told Costello that Peters' committment may be coming soon.

A couple of early highly ranked recruits could set the tone for the whole class.
