Just turned and walked away

Just couldn’t do it anymore.  Even before Cade got hurt. I’ll just read the threads.  Way more entertaining.  And sadly, I don’t see any changes coming.  It will all be chalked up to the virus and 2020.

One final question.  How do you sell any recruit on this program?

great academics, great campus, some of the best facilities in the country, huge fanbase and exposure, the defense sends almost all starters to the NFL, many in the first couple of rounds — including 5 star types (gary, peppers) and developing more unheralded recruits (bush, uche, winovich, paye).

same goes for offensive line.

while it may be hard to win championships here, it's not that hard to recruit here.

"I turned and walked away, then I come round again.

It looks as though tomorrow, I'll do pretty much the same. . . .

10 years ago, I walked this street, my dreams were riding tall

Tonight I would be thankful, Lord, for any dream at all."

I have NEVER in 45 years seen a defense in as much disarray as this one under Don Brown the last 2 to 2&1/2 years. The DE have no clue how to contain and keep outside shoulders open not giving up the edges. D lineman playing high and allowing the O line to always be low man (low man wins). Horrific D line stunts with all 4-5 lineman standing up and not in 3 or 4 down stances. Missed tackles galore all over the field.

I feel I’m watching a weird 80s USFL defensive version of a run and shoot.

Don Brown has clearly lost the ability to teach fundamentals and scheme a successful game plan in the Big 10 Conference. Actually, d-line and tackling fundamentals may have gone out the door with Mattison. Yeah, I’m still ticked he went to OSU, but it’s true.

One final question.  How do you sell any recruit on this program?

I don't know, but I think you had the right idea before this question.  Watching sports is entertainment.  It's also a choice.  If it's not fun any longer chose to do something different.

Just couldn’t do it anymore.

I don't blame you.  I won't watch them live any longer.  I find it too frustrating and emotionally draining.  I chose to do something that makes me feel better since I am not able to compartmentalize it enough to be able to watch it without emotionally invested and frustrated.  So, I just DVR it and if they win I'll go back and watch.  If they lose I don't really need to know anything more.  I don't need an analysis on why we are bad.  We are bad.  I accept it and move on.

I don’t see any changes coming.

Hard to say.  I can't predict the future.  Certainly we haven't seen Manuel publicly indicate anything that would suggest JH is gone or has a benchmark he needs to hit to stay.  I'm sure he'll wait until the end of the year and assess as they likely do every year.  I don't think it's completely outside of the realm of possibilities that JH is gone.  But, that seems to be the fan sentiment/hope.  So, why speculate if it only leads to frustration?  It will be what it will be.

It will all be chalked up to the virus and 2020.

Certainly we have issues all over the place.  But, missing 6-7 starters is what's hurting most IMO.  Some of that is injuries.  Some of that of that is Covid.  And, some of that is letting a good QB walk.  You'd have to think if we had Thomas, Collins, Hayes, Mayfield, Paye, Hutch, & McCaffrey we'd have a few more wins.  But, we still have plenty of deficiencies that seem likely to still be present in 2021.

Lots of frosh and soph players so team will get much better by next year. Significant loss of key eligible players and just placed 10 guys in the draft.  Net: lots of playing time for true frosh who show up ready to play.

That’s the only recruiting pitch that seems plausible.
