Jimmah's post-TD antics, pt II

Submitted by OSUMC Wolverine on
I know how obnoxious we all consider Jimmah to be. But lets take a moment to put the shoe on the other foot. What if our savior, Tate Forcier, was pulling that crap. It certainly would be horribly embarrassing for the program and the fans. Forcier would likely not survive practice on Monday if he did it and that would certainly stink. But that being said, would we all be as critical of Forcier as we are of Jimmah? Jimmah is a bit immature for a 3 year starter and Forcier has shown humility and composure far beyond what one would expect from an eighteen-year-old. But if roles were reversed, would the reaction be the same?

There's a fair amount of annoyance with Boo Boo for his celebrating so I'd like to think we'd be annoyed with it. To the level that people are annoyed with Jimmah? Well of course not because he plays for ND but I think we're level headed enough to recognize when players act like idiots regardless of who they play for.

Unless there is video or photos of that dance no one other than the Mgoblog knows it exists. Which is funny because it seemed as though one person mentioned it in their post game thoughts and now the majority of everyone brings it up as if they saw it and it was some abomination. Funny to me.

I haven't noticed that JC is that annoying when he does something. I think most people in general just have an innate hatred for annointed, media darlings with high expecations. Who likes Tim Tebow? How about Matt Leinart? Anyone for Eli Manning while he was at Ole Miss? I've seen tons of I love Matt Barkley shirts (not really)! All-in-for Brady Quinn, anyone? Tyrell Pryor is your favorite, right? This could go on for days. Point is no one outside of the hardcore really likes the good QBS. So, if you are rooting for them you are going to be annoyed by them. BooBoo is annoying and he should be embarrassed with his celebrations. If I watch a guy drop another ball and him get up and fold his arms as if he has done something, I am going to go crazy. If someone doesn't make a play, it doesn't always mean you made the play BooBoo!!!

Nobody has mentioned this, so I'm going to play devil's advocate and throw it out there for consumption by the masses. Playing corner takes just as much mental fortitude as it does physical. It's debatably the most difficult position on the field to play. One has to remain confident in one's abilities while getting into the head of the person directly across the line of scrimmage. Sometimes you're left on islands out there. Sometimes you're matched up against a guy that's got 3" on you, and that's not counting his jumping ability. Sometimes you're matched up against a guy that's .2s faster in the 40 than you. Playing physical and getting the other guy off his game are a big part of making up for those things. What's easier - outjumping a guy who is taller than you, or getting under his skin so much that he can't concentrate on the ball that's coming right for himohgodthereitgoesthroughmyhands? Has anybody considered that it's all a ploy by BooBoo? Football, like most sports, isn't just about the physical play involved. edit: in the interest of full disclosure, I did not neg you (I've been turning a tail on +/-, trying to only give out - for bannable garbage).

Looking at Cissoko, he has the tools necessary to be a heck of a player. Remember, last year he was very promising at times for a true freshmen. With that, you are correct a lot of playing corner is mental. The mental part is having the confidence to know that you can cover anyone, not pysching out the opposing player. Trust me, if I just scorched you for 40 yards and you get up celebrating it is only gonna make my QB keep throwing at you. You think coaches don't notice the way he acts when he does anything? Yea they see that and their first thought is, "Throw the ball down is f**king throat!!!" Which is precisely what ND proceeded to do. Multiple plays in the row: G. Tate fade rout, G. Tate hitch, G. Tate slant, G. Tate TOUCHDOWN. You tell me who is getting under whose skin? The guy yapping or the guy making plays... Edit: +1 for you. For not allowing our opposing view points to influence your negging...

Doubtful. Some would be annoyed, but UM fans as a group are as homeristic as any other fanbase when it comes to supporting their players. They would eat that shit up, so long as Tate backed it up on the field.

Agreed, CPS. You can throw objectivity out the window for most college football fans. It is largely an emotional experience. Case in point: on that Donovan Warren interception late in the Indiana game, if the roles were reversed and Indiana made that pick to ice the game, would most UM fans think it was a good call?

But the closest we've come (so far) to having a prima donna QB is probably Ryan Mallett. RM did not endear himself to his teammates, coaches or fans during his short stay in A2; he was quicky told to chill out during a TD pass celebration by Jake Long. The most positive comments about him around here were "Give him time", "He's away from home for the first time", "He'll grow out of it".
It seems to me that M has a lower tolerance for such antics.

It seems to me that sometimes even Jimmah's own teammates avoid him after touchdowns, making him look like the classic video of Jim Valvano running around looking for someone to hug after NC State's NCAA championship.

Well since he is the one throwing the ball TO the receiver, everyone runs TO the receiver to celebrate. Do you think ND should start a new trend of running out of the endzone back the QB in the middle of the field?

Tate may be thinking wishfully, or just talking himself in to those steely nerves, but I haven't seen one instance of a lack of class, a la JIMMAH, and I love that about Tate. I'm sure he's got a little punk in him somewhere, but he keeps that part to himself.
