Jim Harbaugh to be honored by the V Foundation for Cancer Research 5/11/2018

Submitted by UMProud on

"Harbaugh, along with ESPN's Mike Greenberg and Florida State basketball coach Leonard Hamilton, will share the spotlight at the 13th Annual Dick Vitale Gala in Sarasota, Fla. The event is designed to raise money for pediatric cancer research and make more people aware of the disease.

"It is hard to believe that we are in the 13th year of our annual gala," Vitale told the V Foundation. "This one is going to be off the charts with honorees Mike Greenberg, Leonard Hamilton and Jim Harbaugh -- all dedicated to helping kids battling cancer.

"There will be a special tribute to two special children we've lost, Tony Colton and Chad Carr, during the evening," Vitale said. "This year, we will break our record and raise over $3.5 million.""

banned.  It's not fair to the student-athletes spring break.

In the spirit of the event and the cuase, this is fantastic.  To have our coach speak about a subject that is near and dear to all of our hearts and bring a true passion that exemplifies the Jimmy V Foundation and the man himself, this is AWESOME!

As my mom died of cancer and my uncle is fighting his own battle with the dreaded disease, it is close to me and a great event and foundation to support.

On one of his (Harbaugh's) podcasts a couple months back, Dickie V was the guest.  Vitale made sure to pin down Harbaugh saying that he'd attend the gala as one of the awardee's.  Harbaugh, in true form, deferred the award and said that Jason and Tammi should recieve it.  He said that several times, and insisted that's how it should be.  But Dick Vitale is nothing if not relentless...  I've no doubt that Jim's 'speech' (as it were) will give praise to the Carr's rather than claim it for himself.

For his part, Vitale was genuinely pleased and grateful that Harbaugh would attend.  He was genuine in his delight to be able to throw even more money at cancer research because of Harbaugh - and he gave that credit freely.

The worst part about you responding to this post, but also perhaps the funniest part, is that now he'll need another post to explain exactly what the first post is about, possibly to mitigate any downvoting. It's a low-risk, high-reward manuver....for the rest of us.

As someone who has lost multiple family members (including my mother) to cancer, it is fucking awesome to have an athletic department that is so dedicated to fighting it through ChadTough. Thank you to Warde, JH, JB, Mel, Hutch, and everyone involved in raising money to fight this horrible disease. Go Blue! Fuck Cancer!

For those unaware . The V foundation was founded by Jim Valvano, former Mens Basketball coach , he coached the 1983 NC state team to the championship .

He founded the foundation after learning he had metastatic adenocarcinoma, a type of glandular cancer that can spread to the bones.

I share this with everyone because I was confused and wanted to reaffirm this, after I saw Dick Vitale involved . I wanted to make sure it was the same organization .

Fuck cancer. I lost my mom last December three days before Christmas .
