Interesting USA Today article about RR's speech
interesting story about the reactions to RR's speech, didn't like the criticism part, but liked the Schilling quote at the very end:
"Great experience," Schilling said. "The wins and losses haven't gone our way, but it's a good experience. I believe in Coach Rod and the system and what he's doing here with the coaches, and I think there will be a lot of success in the future if he's able to stay here."
alot of people were speculating whether the players should show their support or not.. I think it's great that Schilling has stepped up to his leadership role, and hopefully became an example for other teammembers to follow suit.

I would run as fast as I could up to him, and deliever the most potent drop kick of all time... right to his face.

I'd prefer to give the sidekick a side kick.

I am suprised RR's speech made it into USA Today. Seriously this is national sports news?
December 4th, 2010 at 7:28 AM ^
We still have a national program, so we make the national news, good or bad. Even though I thought RR's song was showing support for his team and players, I'll admit it was unusual for a football coach to do.

And the Detroit media look here to see what is likely to get hits. When this topic blew up on the board, they knew it was a live one. And then the dominoes kept falling from there.
They are DESPERATE for clicks. It doesn't matter if it is newsworthy or not.
December 4th, 2010 at 1:33 PM ^
God, is that a self-centered way of looking at the world. As if they all just sit around with baited breath, waiting for the members of this board to chime in.
1) The articles appeared shortly after the bust ended. So, no, you're wrong.
2) But let's say you were accurate. If the articles were prompted by this board ("blowing up"), then it would follow that this was indeed a viable news item.
Logic, dude.

There are literally hundreds of season's end sports banquets every year and many of them have oddball/cheesy moments. It's baffling that this is getting so much attention.

He got hammered all day yesterday on Atlanta sports talk.

Well, it made a really pretty graph when you broke down the speech into a pie chart.

The priceless part of the article is this:
Groban also took a mild swing at Rodriguez on his Twitter account.
"Coach Rodriguez, I'm very flattered but crying to You Raise Me Up is SO five years ago. #playwelcometothejungle"
I never heard of Groban until all this happened. It appears that he has enjoyed some success in the music industry--success that I was completely and blissfully unaware of until the football bust. When his monstrous talent is counterbalanced against the fact that so many have lived their day-to-day lives unaware of his existence, one can only draw a single conclusion--he is a ninja.
A ninja who deserves to have his very little dong punched by a very little hand.

Yes, a ninja who's power is entertaining my 62 year old Mom. I'm not too sure if that song is even five years ago, Josh. You mighty assassin of soprano.

Weren't cheesy singalongs like this a regular occurance at USC when Pete was there? ESPN even did a feature on that Lean on Me lovefest. It was called inspiring, and a great sign of team unity then. What gives now? Amazing how a couple of extra wins this year would have shaped the fallout of the banquet.
December 4th, 2010 at 12:22 PM ^
The difference is USC was trucking along and trucking everyone in their way. UM was too busy getting trucked weekly at the end of the year. Pete had a job for life, RR not so much.

And he ran away like a little bitch.
December 4th, 2010 at 12:56 PM ^
It's funny how the only ones who don't find RR's bust behavior odd or embarrassing are a segment of people on this board. Sometimes a little perspective helps.
December 6th, 2010 at 7:56 AM ^
...perspective would also suggest that we examine the behavior displayed at all football award banquets/busts and judge them on soundbites of their respective sappiest moments as well.
Either there would be a few more embarrassed coaches/athletes out there sharing the spotlight...or maybe Coach Rodriguez's behavior wouldn't appear so abnormal.

DMX' Lord Give Me a Sign or maybe a pimped version of Hail to the Victors. Go Blue!
