Inside Michigan Football: Rutgers 2017

Submitted by JWG Wolverine on

Just posting the link up on here since I didn't see it yet.

Both the old Michigan Replay intro (the proper way to start watching these) and the episode are in the comments!

Go Blue!

(Haven't been able to visit the site since the game, busy weekend and I was there, so I'll just leave you guys this picture to summarize my feelings on the team this week!)

Is it just me, or does Brandy's voiceovers outside the interview segments sound like they were recorded in a phone booth with a Talkboy? Miss the old show, I've just never been able to get into the new version after all these years.

During the Rutgers game, Brandy segued into one commercial break saying it was Thanksgiving weekend at the Big House. Clearly he meant Homecoming weekend (I hope), and he tried some feeble excuse for his error when they came back on the air. Dierdorf wasn't buying it at all. They should let Jon Jansen do the play-by-play.

Brandy is fine on the Lions broadcasts.  It is obvious his role is as a color analyst.  He doesn't know how to do play by play.  Some people are severely monotone - Brandy fits this description, but is at the out of breathe. total excitement level on EVERY FREAKING PLAY.

I want someone who gives us the time, the down and distance, the formation, shotgun vs under center, alignment, etc.  Brandy gets too many things wrong because he tries to do color as well as play by play.

I'm not sure about Jon Jansen.  I haven't heard him before other than on The Ticket.  Michigan needs a professional play-by-play analyst.  The fans deserve it.

Brandy is fine doing color, but we need a "radio man" to take over.  A radio call needs to give enough information that the listener can visualize the game.  Since I go to 90% of the games I scan all the things mentioned above, time, down and distance, shotgun, blitz wideouts, ... there are too many things to call them all, but a long-time radio guy knows how to do this.  Radio guys change teams all the time (at least in the NFL).  Certainly there must be someone out there that can bring Michigan football to life over the radio.

thought Brandy had improved through the first three games of this season (and posted something to that effect) but there has been a severe regression since BIG play began.   He did not sound like a remotely plausible PBP game during the Rutgers game.  I am hoping they address it in the off-season.  I wanted them to find an awesome replacement at one point, now I wish they would just throw Matt Shephard in there and go with it.  I don't even care if they have a three man booth, they just need a token play-by-play guy at this point.

I streamed the radio broadcast of the OSU-PSU game because I wasn't near a TV at the time.  They had a first-class play-by-play guy (Paul Keels), though I thought their color guy was worse than Brandy as a color guy (Jim Lachey).  Keels has a great voice and understands the cadence of play-by-play.  We need someone like that to do the UM broadcast justice.

I guess Paul did a stint as a Pistons play-by-play guy, though I don't remember that.  He did have one very annoying habit, his use of the non-word "Absitively".

Love the Michigan Man, Brandyman.

However, he has no business doing radio broadcast play-by-play.  He and Dierdorf could form a decent duo as color analysts.  Surely there's gotta be a radio guy out there somewhere available to do the play-by-play.
