You must not be from round these parts. I think Rich Rodriguez is well aware of the Inkster QB we lovingly call Devin Gardner.

but I guess I don't keep up on my high school football enough...I guess I should read the Devin Gardner interview.

It's an interesting interview.
What kind of baffles me is that this kid isn't a UM lock... He's in our back yard, athletic, fits perfectly in RR's offense... seems like a no-brainer he'd go Blue, right? But it sounds like his recruitment is pretty open between M, OSU, PSU, and MSU.

It's tough when there are 2 highly rated QB's in the class ahead of you.

I haven't really gotten to see him throw a whole lot*; is he that good of a passer? Or is he an athlete who throws sometimes?
*When I saw him play, it was in ugly weather that wasn't conducive to much passing. And I was going to watch tonight's game at a local restaurant/sports bar, but when I got there I found out that the game wasn't on Fox Sports, but instead was on something called Fox Sports Plus, which is like Fox Sports except the local restaurant doesn't get it. (Fox Sports streamed last night's D4 game on their website, but instead of being nice and doing that again for the D3 game, they just pushed it off on FSP.) So I had to listen to the radio call, which is all well and good except it's hard to see what kind of a passer Gardner really is.

Did anyone get to see Gardner play tonight?

Not a stellar night for Gardner according to this Freep game recap:

Does anyone else enjoy saying "stinkster"? IDK..sounds funny.

It's an accurate nickname, too.

stinkstah?

something about the interview turned me off about this guy. I don't know, maybe it was just me. I guess after reading the Ricardo Miller interview, it might be tough to impress me

Was it the fact that he sounded like an idiot? "I never watched the game, but I like red so I liked Ohio State"?
November 30th, 2008 at 7:14 PM ^
yeah, that was probably it. That kind of thing just makes me think of the guy as unloyal, and somewhere in my mind that makes him selfish, faulty as that logic may be.

I saw some good chunks of the second half. The dude is extremely lanky and he had a bizarre throwing motion, almost like he was shot-putting, but he looked like he had a pretty good arm.
I think his teammate, Cameron Gordon, has some upside. He's jacked and he's only a junior I think. Big and fast. I think State has offered him. Michigan should definitely pay attention to him and Gardner next year.

Cameron Gordon is a WR prospect for this year. Michigan just offered him.

are our chances of getting Gordan?
November 30th, 2008 at 9:23 PM ^
He's getting a late start, I don't think he's even taken any officials yet. I'd have to imagine our chances are good though, with the other offers he has.
November 30th, 2008 at 11:38 PM ^
high on him...reasons?
December 1st, 2008 at 12:17 AM ^
No, to be honest, I don't really have an opinion on him. It can't hurt if we get him, it just depends on who else we get. I'm just higher on other guys, he's a safe bet, it's just weird that he hasn't gotten better offers. I'm still trying to figure him out.

based on a poll of the various recruiting sites and message boards it seems like his upside as a WR would be a solid possession receiver, maybe comparable to Greg Mathews. But on the defensive side of the ball his ceiling seems to be much higher, and at this point in his recruitment he only seems to be expressing interest in teams that tell him he can be a WR.
