Home jerseys on the road

Submitted by Hard Gay on
That maize jersey topic got me wondering, with the new rule change regarding home and away jersey colors, Do you think Michigan will suit up in the blue tops at all for away games, now or ever? What about other teams wearing their home colors into Michigan Stadium? And how about Red vs Blue UM vs OSU game?

Remember the Buffalo (blue) vs some red team on election night, when both were wearing home jerseys. It was pretty cool to see the game considering all the blue/red state hype that night.

I believe the NCAA changed the rules to allow two teams to wear homes of contrasting colors after UCLA and USC decided to restore that tradition - they both shared the Rose Bowl for many years. However, I don't think I'd want another team wearing their homes at Michigan Stadium, so it would go the same for M as visitors.

I think the a Blue-Green game would be really cool. Just for that game every year. I dont want anyone else wearing their home jerseys in Michigan Stadium, nor do I want to wear home jerseys in any other stadium. Only for the MSU game, not even for UOS.

I think we could do it against red teams. In the Big Ten, we could do it against: OSU Illinois (if they wear their orange third) Wisconsin Minnesota's probably out. Indiana's on the fence, but "on the fence" probably means "no". Obviously Penn State, Purdue, Iowa, and Northwestern are no gos. MSU's too similar too. Delaware State wears red, it might be fun to let them wear that for our game this year.

Call me crazy but these are things I don't want to envision. There's something to me about waking up every saturday morning in the fall and knowing what uni's the good guys will be wearing... Don't get me wrong I'm a big fan of the modernized uni's that many programs are sportin now a days... But to me this is Michigan... We shouldn't need gimmicky ways to hype our players by changing what color uni's they'll be wearing on gameday... Wrong post but in regards to the maize jersey's, but think about WVU sportin' the all yellow or how insanely grotesque notre dame looked when they went throwback with the green jersey's. I can understand some prgrams changing uni's and doing gimmicky things, but this is a foundation of football built on tradition (please a night game one time) and our uni's should not become a way to hype the player's, fan's, or media about a game. That's just me though, whatever they do do I know where ill be sitting and what ill be doing (chair/ drinking) when they take the field if their is a uni change supportin the maize and blue

I'm actually kind of torn. I lean toward Get Off My Lawn and wanting blue at home, white away, and dammit, other teams better be in white when they come to the Big House. I can't really convince myself that whites on the road is some kind of Hallowed Tradition, though. It might be interesting to do it at a place like Illinois if they wore their orange.

By "two of the coolest" you mean Michigan's Home and Away jerseys, right? I'm sure you're not talking about these travesties: Because there are so many things wrong with these duds I don't know where to start. Numbers: WAY too large. It's like the uni equivalent of CAPS LOCK ALL THE TIME Sleeve Stripes: As in way too many, and way too thick. And they don't even match the stripe scheme elsewhere on the uniform. The helmet and pants are red inside with a white trim and then a black outer trim. These are...silver and white? I don't get... Color scheme: Okay, scarlet and silver, it's a weird-ass color scheme, and I think you might be a mite old to be dressing up as Optimus Prime, but to each... But please explain to me how you justify the black stripe? And how did white get on the uniform? Here's a tip: classic teams stick to two colors. Maize and Blue. Blue and White. Crimson and White. Green and White. Blue and Gold. Black and Gold. Cardinal and Gold. True Blue and Gold. Nobody ever wrote a song called "All Hail the Silver and Red and White and Black"! Helmet: Boooooooring. Red stripe down the middle I get -- it differentiates yourself from other silver-hatted teams (wouldn't want to be mistaken for the Lions). The white on either side of that, well, it's a little Div. II don't you think? I mean, how many other teams out there are silver helmets with red stripes that you have to differentiate yourself so as not to be confused with them? And then, another black stripe? For the love of God, why? Because people couldn't see the white? I mean, ridiculous! There's nothing cool about drawing straight lines over and over again. Pants: These are perhaps the greatest insult to fashion of this entire ensemble. If you thought the stripes were overkill on the helmet, the same goes triple for the triple-striping on the pants, especially because now the red line isn't even double-thick, so it looks like someone glued one red and two black Twizzlers on there. Poopie: I didn't want to mention this but it looks like birds have been crapping on some of the helmets: That's pretty gross, guys. Want a towel or something? All told, I'd say, objectively, this is probably among the worst uniforms in sports. And subjectively, I'd say that anyone caught walking around in such embarrassing uniforms should be considered an insult to the sport of football. But that's just my humble opinion.

Nice analysis. The recent re-addition of black to their uniforms is what really made them too busy for my taste. I actually think if they go back to a simpler scheme, it will be fine, but they've gone a little stripe-crazy recently.

OSU's basic look is fine, but I'd drop the stripes on the sleeves and especially on the pants. Solid gray pants would look really nice.

USC/UCLA did a game like that last year and it looked awesome. Keep in mind, having one uniform is VERY old school. With Ohio State or Michigan State it would be quite cool (obviously, the whites are necessary for teams like Notre Dame and Penn State). I would very much be down for wearing the home blues in the Shoe, or in East Lansing, like a statement that yur howse is now belongs to us

if the host team asks us to do it / its a neutral site game where it makes sense (bowl game?). I'm sure this is built in somewhere, but the home team should have to agree to allow it to happen. That way no one comes to Michigan Stadium (or anyone else's stadium, really) trying to show up the home team by wearing their own home colors. However, the more I think about Bowl Games, the more I like the idea provided there is proper contrast between the colors. Letting everybody wear their home jerseys there if possible could be fun.

It would be weird watching M wear blue at an away (non bowl) game. I think I could get used to it though and welcome the idea.

I do agree that doing this would be fun but it would have to be reserved for either OSU or MSU. If we start wearing our Blues on the road all the time it will lose its flavor. With the OSU rivalry being what it is I think the Blue/Green game between UofM and MSU would be the perfect situation. I think with the contrasting helmets and how well the stadium is lit there would be no confusion amongst the players. Especailly during the day.
