Hobey Baker Award voting update

Submitted by JonnyHintz on
Phase 2 of voting for the Hobey Baker award is underway. Michigan has 3 of the 10 finalists for the award, and currently, Kyle Connor is in 3rd place with 10.8% of the votes (about a thousand out of 1st place), Tyler Motte is currently 9th, and J.T. Compher is coming in last. Voting is done through the Hobey Baker Award Facebook page. It is common knowledge around here that Michigan fans vote in the masses during online polls such as these. Let's bring home the Hobey.

How much this fan voting actually accounts for in the final award voting? Given their stellar years, if fan voting is anything less than 10% of the final count, then it's not really worth it, IMO.

" The primary voting in this part of the process is by the Hobey Baker Memorial Award Selection Committee, a geographically balanced group of 27 individuals representing print and electronic sports media, college hockey coaches and officials, and NHL scouts." It only says primary. It doesn't say how much. But goes on to say that fan voting does impact the results.

In the immortal words of Dean Wormer, hopefully "0.0" percent. why should an online popularity contest have any bearing on this award? Especially if the guy that is destroying the country with 1.92 pts/game AS A FUGGING FRESHMAN doesn't win the damn thing.

dumb.

go blue.

Fan voting make up some minute fraction of the voting so people can visit their website.

In terms of points this season: Connor, Compher, and Motte are 1st, 2nd and 4th respectively in the entire nation. Connor leads the country in goals, with Motte coming in second. Compher leads the nation in assists. Let's get these guys some votes.

If they're going to snub Connor because of USA Hockey politics and strength of schedule Jimmy Vesey will win.

The Hobey doesn't go to goalies just like the Heisman doesn't go to wide receivers. If Hellebuyck couldn't win after posting one of the greatest seasons in NCAA history there's no way Demko will get it.

but I stupidly joined Facebook with my real name, thinking it would actually be a private endeavor, and when I link to the vote page and see my face and real name already on their voting page, I just can't do it.  Hope you're right about the fan vote meaning little, but I'd encourage the rest of you to make up for my lapse.

We did this for Jabrill a few months back and got him one vote (the fan vote) but he still lost. The #chadtough vote was totally up to us and our votes but something like this I don't think we can really impact, just like the Jabrill vote.
