Tigers have really helped him out so far. 4-0 in the 2nd already.
5-0 as that left right as I hit save.
wow...wtf 5-0 sox. Porcello is getting hit hard.
...that this outing happens to come in a nationally televised ESPN game.
At least we have something going with 2-men on, though we seem to do worse as we get more men on base...
"sucks for porcello this outing happens to come in a nationally televised ESPN game."
You say that like porcello has been great lately and just happened to trip up tonight. He has been terrible in his last 4 starts and this is just a continuation of the trend.
Last 4 Starts including today:
4 innings, 4 ER
4.1 innings, 5 ER
5 innings, 5 ER
3.2 innings, 5 ER (so far this game)
Porcello is a fantastic prospect don't get me wrong, but lets not act like this outing is some fluke.
Well I was specifically referencing how the ESPN crew started off the coverage by saying that he was 20 years old and already had 9 wins. So they hype him up and then he starts off real slow.
He's had trouble lately, but since we're not on Sunday Night Baseball that often, it would have been good PR for the Tigers for him to play to his potential instead of continuing his recent slump.
Richards with the 6th pick off of the year. Good balk move. So hard to call that as an umpire.
My biased opinion was blatant balk. The step was not to first as much as it was to home. I know, sour grapes, spilt milk.
It's hard to believe that they could get Cutis like that without balking given how proficient of a baserunner he is. I have a really hard time distinguishing what the umps see as a balk, even when I have the official rules sitting right in front of me.
I umpire at the high school level. That "45 degree angle" is so tough to call. And if you choke on it for even a second you generally don't call it, that's long enough to question yourself. You can't do that. Like I said, I think it was probably a balk, but many many times an umpire - even the best ones - will not call that on the lefty. It's just too difficult.
Rarely (by my recollection) is there an umpire standing behind first base in high school as in the bigs (we never had more than 2). Difficult to call from home or second. Shouldn't be that difficult from first in the bigs.
I agree that it was a pretty blatant balk.
The umps never, ever call it on Buehrle, who shuts down another team's running game all on his own -- guys almost never even attempt against him. Richard learned his move from the master.
They got to score more than one run against a left handed pitcher. They really need a bat.
On mlb trade rumors, it looks like the Tigers are interested in Cody Ross of the Marlins, and Zach Duke and Freddy Sanchez of the Pirates.
Tigers aren't playing too bad, just not getting the good breaks. Looking forward to a great series with Texas.
I've only been half paying attention since we haven't done anything in a while, but they just pointed out that the White Sox had Chris Getz, another former Michigan baseball player. He did, however, just hit into a double play...
He got a little lucky tonight as a couple of our hard hit balls were hit right at the Sox defenders, but he had a good night. I think he is going into the bullpen now for the Sox to be their second lefty out of the pen.
we took 3 of 4 which was very big in this series. Porcello got roughed up but I felt we played significantly better than we have been in this series. I think it was game 1 where we ever manufactured a run! GASP
