Friday Night BBQ, Adult Beverage, and What Are Your Memorial Day Wknd Plans
Mates,
After four straight days of snow up north last week (not kidding), winter ended this week (only partially kidding). The weather has been gorgeous up here and the BBQ is lit. We have had a spring we'll remember the rest of our lives but hopefully some normalcy is returning.
The interweb tells me that Memorial Day started out in 1868 or thereabouts, not as a veterans day, but for this:
In 1868, Commander in Chief John A. Logan of the Grand Army of the Republic issued General Order Number 11 designating May 30 as a memorial day “for the purpose of strewing with flowers or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village, and hamlet churchyard in the land.”
With honor to those who fell so we could live in this great country, I hope you have good plans for the weekend. The questions are:
1. What's on your BBQ/plate/in your cup?
2. What is on the schedule for the weekend?
Be safe, Go Blue
XM
Grill, Chill, and check on a few buddies from the Marines.
I bbq'd and smoked (cherry wood) some chicken and thick pork chops. The chicken was over seasoned and came out less then stellar. But, the pork chops came out lip smackin' fantastic.
I'll honor those who gave their lives for this country by smoking a LFD Colorado Oscuro No 2 with an orange soda hit with some Malibu Rum.
Pizza , Cherry Pie Pinot Noir, Spotted Cow beer, a small gathering of 11 friends on the patio by the fire and a gift of special brownies. It was a good evening
11, you say?
For the purposes of the written record, can we agree that Double-D lives in Sweden or South Dakota or Bolivia?
Kids and grandkids are coming over for spare ribs. They're in the Egg right now, and they smell orgasmic just cooking.
For the grown ups the Sam Adams summer variety pack is sublime.
Did you slather the kids and grandkids with BBQ sauce?
Nope, they did that themselves while eating the ribs.
Stone Scorpion Bowl IPA last night.
Probably something lighter like Buenaveza today since I might have to take the wife to urgent care for her back.
Sorry about the wife’s back...not fun.
Here in AZ, all of the resort hotels are usually booked solid because this weekend is usually the last one with great weather before the heat sets in.
But this year because of the pandemic, thought the weather is especially excellent (highs have been in the 80's) the resort hotels are...
...all completely booked. Go figure!
Put 2 10# butts on the Yoder last night, 17 hours at 225 2 different rubs. Rub my butt was the best I ever had. Drinking Wild turkey Kentucky spirit small batch or something like that. The booze goes thru here so fast lately its a blur.
