Friday Games (open thread) + Viewing Schedule
BUMPED TO TOP - LSA
At first I was going to combine the noon/afternoon games threads...but looking at the late games, yuck. It's Friday after a holiday so this shouldn't get pushed too far down the front page. There are a few more televised games, but they're terrible, IMO. Anyway, enjoy!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's rivalry week...you know what that means! CLICHES!!!!
"Throw the records out the window when these two teams get together."
"When these two matchup anything can happen."
"Last game of the regular season and they're leaving it all out on the field!"
"With no championship on the line, this one will be about pride."
"An in-state rivalry with a year's worth of bragging rights on the line."
"These two teams, flat don't like each other."
"You shouldn't need any extra motivation for this one!"

How about this being Tom Herman's last game at Houston. I'm gonna assume when he takes a new job he won't be sticking around to coach the bowl game for Houston.
November 25th, 2016 at 12:20 PM ^
web is he's done deal with LSU.
November 25th, 2016 at 12:32 PM ^
That may be because of TX foot-dragging, not that LSU is his first choice.
Objectively, which is the better gig, Texas or LSU? It's hard to go wrong either way.
In a vacuum, I might say LSU, but you are looking up at Saban's ass every year. And I don't think he is leaving anytime soon. If you are being hired at LSU you are being hired to beat Alabama. Not a lot of margin for error there.

Agreed. But the fact he looked perplexed was comical.
He's going to have to learn how to lie a little better if he's going to be at Texas or in the SEC.

For those with Fox Sports Detroit, there's also the state championship games on TV today. One to look forward to would be the 1pm kickoff with King (Ambry Thomas) involved.

What great timing for this thread and its viewing schedule! I was just looking around to see whats on today! Gotta say, there's more than I thought!! And thanks for the HS State Championship update, too! Is the big division King v Cass Tech, like last year? Would love to see JKP, DPJ, and AT on the same field to, you know, preview what that will look like next season...

I hope Texas pounds TCU. Think the players rally around Charlie Strong.
November 25th, 2016 at 12:21 PM ^
Agreed. But they should've started that along time ago.
They lost to Kansas. KANSAS.
I will say this though, whoever comes in next year is going to have a very solid team. They're all freshman and sophomores. Next year Texas can get to 9 wins. 2 years from now they'll probably fighting for a conference title.
But still, they lost to Kansas.

Really curious who they are going to end up hiring. The news that LSU is making a major push for Herman caught me by surprise...

There is NO reason why we shouldn't run that with Peppers.
If the DB goes, that's one less defender to make a tackle. But Peppers is almost always going to draw attention and suck that DB up.
That should be 6 to Chesson or Darboh tomorrow.
Our biggest issue is we only use Peppers sparingly so everyone's alert to a trick play.
I wonder if McDoom can throw it? He actually may be the better option if you're trying to get the pass off and make the DB bite.

I think that play against Rutgers in the endzone might have been a variation of this, the one where he ended up keeping it and running in for the score.
I think this could be the perfect play for a guy like Speight. We've put the read option on tape already this year with him, but only a few times. I'd be willing to bet the CB would bite on the run action if the WR sold the block hard enough and then entered the route. Speight has shown he can throw on the move and a decent clip and it shouldn't need to be more than a touch pass.

I want absolute CHAOS the next two weeks. I'd love to see UNC win the ACC, WSU or Colorado win the Pac-12 and WMU leapfrog Boise St. to go to the Cotton Bowl.

Sucks that the Washington and Iowa games are on at the same time. I wish the Washington game was on after the Western vs Toledo game.
November 25th, 2016 at 12:26 PM ^
Washington - Washington State is a big game for us. We need Washington to win big. They will win the Pac 12 North, and they will get a big SOS boost from whoever they play from the South in the Pac 12 championship game.
It will be enough that a one-loss Ohio State would not get in over a one-loss Pac 12 champion Washington.
Along with the looming potential of a PSU Big Ten champion, a big Washington win keeps the pressure on Ohio State. They will feel that they need to beat us convincingly . . . playing The Game with one eye constantly on the scoreboard to see if they are getting enough style points.
If we are close to them in the 4th, they are going to get the yips.
November 25th, 2016 at 12:40 PM ^
Personally I want chaos, that way if we lose their is a slight chance we can sneak in or stay in the top 5.

We won't make the playoff with a loss to OSU. Might as well keep Meyer out of it too.
I want to win of course, but I would laugh my ass off if Ohio State wins and gets left out for Alabama, Clemson, Washington, and . . . Penn State.
That would be two years in a row they derped away clear simple path to the CFP with a team far superior to the one that knocked them out of it.
So much for the invincibility of Urban Meyer.
November 25th, 2016 at 3:03 PM ^
I'd much rather see them left out for Wisconsin if it comes to that.
November 25th, 2016 at 1:15 PM ^
to root for. Had not considered that view but understand your point.
Thanks for posting Mr. Yost. Gonna dvr both and go back and forth while getting even more pumped for tomorrow.
November 25th, 2016 at 3:02 PM ^
If Washington wins big, Ohio State is going to be jittery as hell tomorrow thinking about what they need to do to impress the committee. Not the distracted mindset you want to be in to face Michigan.
November 25th, 2016 at 3:51 PM ^
This is an interesting thought, but I actually believe that the chaos some seek will happen, and the winner of the Michigan-Ohio State game will make the playoffs regardless of B1G Championship game outcome.

Ambry Thomas looks good in this game, sort of does a little of everything. Almost made that spectacular catch in the endzone too.

Touchdown Memphis...14-3.
Herman's agent better go ahead and sign that deal...in blood.

I didn't realize that the last time Texas lost to Kansas was during the second term of Franklin Roosevelt. That fact has to make it hurt even more on some levels.
Also, this is more Mark May than I am accustomed to watching - it is resoundingly uncomfortable.

NC State/UNC were having technical difficulties.
Back on now and NC State scored again, up 14-0.

If Herman does go to LSU...what happens to Coach O and Aranda?
Can he keep Coach O to stay and be his DL coach? I doubt it. He's almost certain* to bring Todd Orlando as his DC. Which seems crazy when Aranda is there.
HOWEVER...most people don't know that Herman and Aranda were roomates in college. So maybe that's why LSU is so attractive? Because he gets to coach with his friend and college roommate.
It's going to be an interesting week.

Why didn't any of you tell me the title in the OP says "viewing scheduling" instead of "viewing schedule?"
I feel like you left me hanging with a booger in my nose.
