Former Penn St AD and Sr VP Plead Guilty in Sandusky coverup

Submitted by SBayBlue on

Former Penn State AD Tim Curley and Senior VP Gary Schultz plead guilty this morning to charges of endangering the welfare of children in the Jerry Sandusky sexual molestation coverup. The misdemeanor charge carries with it the possibility of 5 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Seems that they may be willing to testify next week in the case of Former University President Graham Spanier.

Let's see how the members over at BWI react to this development.

Commencing meltdown in 3, 2, 1....

Janitors wouldn't have gotten anywhere. There was a cover up at every level, chief of police, a prosecutor went mysteriously missing. Grunts would've been fired so fast AND none would have listened

A running joke and rumors and raised eyebrows are just that, not enough unlike eyewitness or victims coming forward. Although i do suspect if this were a small high school coach, his house would've raided for evidence at least even going by rumors

Don't forget he called his dad afterwards to ask what he should do. What a conversation that must have been. "Hi Dad, I just witnessed a horrifying crime being committed. Can you give me some advice on how to make sure it doesn't disrupt my career trajectory?"

i never liked the bill casey defense in the iran - contra affair - i.e., blame the dead guy, but in this case i would be in favor of it.

This whole subject makes me sad.  PSU fans are, in great numbers, twisting themselves in intellectual knots trying to keep Paterno's image pure in their own minds.  Baylor fans apparently don't even need the mental gymnastics.... they just don't give a shit.  While it's a far less damning offense, many around here are ready to give C. Webber the keys to the kingdom in spite of his "inability to buy pizza" and a thousand other lies compounding his original sin.  Barry Switzer, Bobby Knight, Jimmy Johnson, Jim Tressell, Hugh Freeze, John Calipari, Rick Pitino, Bobby Petrino, many many others; all scum, all celebrated for #WINNING.  It's just not very fun.

Clark Kellogg didn't ask Mark Hollis the following question on the NCAA Selection Show yesterday;

"Now that you've explained Syracuse falling off the bubble, can you address your institution's current compliance with Title IX?"

old style prosecution strategy: .divide and conquer. Find those most willing to make a deal and then have them testify against the most recalcitrant defendant. So, Curley and Shultz took the deal and will now make the state's case on Spanier who saw no wrongdoing in the way his administration handled things with JoePa's assufance. Guess that position in court won't work now. Maybe we'll get to what people knew and when they knew it. Or maybe not. Doesn't really matter.

It's all face-saving and anway Penn State won the Big Ten championship game. That should end the debate about things that used to go bump in the night in Happy Valley.

Curley and Schultz are life-long "yes men."  That's their character.  They'll do whatever to save their own butts.

It's not coincidental that Curley and Schultz both pled guilty to ONLY a misdemeanor (and not a felony).  Per Pennsylvania law, they'll now still get to keep their pensions.

So, if it went to trial, and followed their attorney's advice, they would not be answering questions under oath.

There should be an allocution requirement, that is, testifying to the factual basis for the guilty plea.  In Michigan, that has to be done before the court can accep the plea.

Unless they pull a Spiro Agnew and plead nolo contendere.

I mean, think about Joe Pa's idyllic view of what college athletics could be.  Think about the Grand Experiment.  That's a pretty beautiful idea.  Why did the people in charge have to mess it up by being spineless shits?

The rats continue to abandon the sinking ship.

If it were you of me, prosecutoin would have insisted that the plea be to a felony.

Probably cut a sweetheart deal to narc on someone stretching too much during practices.
