Final Ranking?

Submitted by RDDGoblue on
So with all but one relevant game having been played (Oregon-TCU remains), where do you all feel that we will wind up being ranked? We are 14th now, and showed well enough alone that I can't see anyone jumping us. #13 Northwestern got smoked by UT, so they fall behind us. #11 TCU plays tonight #10 UNC lost to Baylor by 11 #9 FSU lost to Houston by 14 # 8 Notre Dame lost to OSU by 16 #5 Iowa lost to Stanford by 29 #4 Oklahoma lost to Clemson by 20 #3 Michigan St lost to Alabama by 38 Obviously we jump NW. If TCU loses tonight we surely jump them. I think it is almost certain we jump UNC. Same with FSU. 50/50 whether we hop ND. I think we should pass Iowa. They were totally exposed vs the only real bits of their schedule the last 2 wks. Not jumping any of the CFP teams that lose. So #12 is worst case, I think that #10 is the baseline, and with a TCU loss, I could fathom us getting as high as #8. Both ND and Iowa are iffy jumps, so I say we end up at 9 with a TCU loss and 10 if TCU wins. My top 10 as of now (with TCU win) 1 Clemson 1 Alabama 3 Oklahoma 4 Stanford 5 MSU 6 Ohio St 7 Ole Miss 8 TCU 9 Michigan 10 Iowa

11 or 12 using AP.  We were 17 coming into the final poll.  The CFB poll wont matter.  Maybe we are ahead of Iowa ... but that's about it as best as I can tell - Houston was ahead of us and beat FSU so will get street cred for it with 1 loss. Baylor may or may not finish ahead of us - impressive bowl win considering they were on the 9th QB.

  1. Clemson or Bama
  2. Clemson or Bama
  3. OSU 12-1
  4. Oklahoma 11-2
  5. Stanford 12-2
  6. MSU 12-2
  7. Ole Miss 10-3
  8. Notre Dame 10-3 (all losses to elite teams Clemson, Stanford, OSU)
  9. Houston 13-1
  10. Iowa 11-2
  11. TCU if they win 11-2 (if they lose UM goes to this spot as Oregon will have 3 losses)
  12. Michigan 10-3
  13. Baylor 10-3
  14. FSU 10-3
  15. NC 11-3

Next group: NW, loser of Oregon TCU, OK State, Navy, Utah

Meh, can be argued all day, its pretty moot if we get 1 spot up or lower.  Oregon can claim they have a better win than UM has - rightly so - with Stanford.  They lost to MSU, as did we - we lost at home, Oregon in EL..  They lost to Utah, as did we.  Oregon lost at home, we lost in Utah. The other loss was oSU for us and Washington State for them which we "win" on although we got killed by OSU.

It's a coin flip, Oregon fan would argue UF didnt have its QB either as he was injured blah blah.  These teams had very similar resumes and the differences in their resumes are negligible. Can't get too upset if we were behind or ahead of them if both end up with 3 losses.

on 2nd thought I have Ole Miss too high, they were AP #16 coming into the bowls and UM was #17 - they probably stay ahead for thrashing a 1 loss team but probably only 1 spot ahead of UM.

Oregon is #15 - ahead of UM - so if they beat TCU soundly might stay ahead of UM as well.

So 12ish seems about right - AP voters didn't like us as much as CFB - if we had lost by 10 to OSU it would probably have helped set us up better than getting thrashed.

I'm going to guess we end up #12 (even though I'd love it to be top 10).  I'm guessing MSU, and Iowa still all stay ahead of us, even with the losses.

I don't really care where we finish, but am just glad to have finished this season on a high note with hope for the future instead of a winter of depression. Having said that, I think we will be at 10, but am REALLY hoping to have a little chuckle if we somehow finish one spot ahead of STAEE! Either way, I think we are in line for a great position for a preseason ranking somewhere in the 5-10 range, which is a perfect location for a shot at the playoff!

Last year, most teams that lost dropped three spots with the exception of the #9, 11 and 12 teams who dropped 8, 7, and 7 respectively.    We had a great showing but against a lesser ranked team.  We were supposed to win.

We move up but probably no highr than number 12 , likely 13.  We do have a chance however of coming in at #10 pre-season (and I hate useless pre-season polls).
