The arresting officer noted in his report that when he first walked up to Smith’s car, “Smith said something that sounded like he said he was an officer. I asked him if he was a police officer, and he said, ‘I’m great.’ ”

I don't doubt that Smith felt great. Sadly, the law doesn't permit one to feel great in quite that way and operate a vehicle. Hopefully, this is an aberration and not a pattern and he can move forward from here.

for those of you who find joy in this sort of news... grow up. nobody wins here. "rabble rabble Ohio state dui rabble rabble" this sucks. for him, the folks on the road, etc. I've been in his shoes and it's not right to judge or poke fun of. everyone loses.

It's interesting to see people in the comments freaking out about the marijuana and not the fact that he was driving drunk. I would say something snarky about people that read the Columbus Dispatch but instead I'll take the moral high ground.

Funny how Smith looks totally hungover in that promotional picture for "Life Support." Real nice marketing strategy.

But it's probably an Ohio-based company...so yeah.

The History of Life Support
Life Support was founded in 2012 in Columbus, Ohio, with one mission: create a hangover relief product that actually works. Rather than selecting a few herbs and vitamins at random due to their supposed hangover preventative properties, we set out to discover the most accepted hangover cures from around the world. Our search led us to Seoul, South Korea, where we were exposed to an exploding market for Japanese raisin tree fruit extract. Tens of millions of people have already reaped the benefits of this elusive raisin tree fruit and yet there was virtually no awareness of this breakthrough hangover cure in the United States.

per Wikipedia for this Hovenia dulcis:

It has been used in traditional Japanese, Chinese, and Korean medicines to treat fever, parasitic infection, as a laxative, and a treatment of liver diseases, and as a hangover treatment.

Seems to have all the bases covered

Glad I was safely in the house instead of out on the roads at 2:30 this morning.

Nothing good about this.  Not for Smith, his family, the Buckeyes, and especially us.

Serve your penance, kid.  It'll be costly but hopefully it serves as a lesson.

Not a good situation for anyone. I never understand how people can take joy in this happening.

Sucking in the NFL, yeah that's funny. Saying you're not here to play school is funny too. Poor decisions that could really negatively affect ones life, a family's life, or an innocent victim's, that is not a laughing manner.

Nor is it a laughing matter.

However, he's supposed to be a grown man. Instead, he knowingly drank himself over the legal limit and then decided to get behind the wheel.

What a fucking idiot. He could've killed somebody, not just himself.

Go fuck yourself, Troy.

Not sure how some think this is funny. People really struggle with alcohol. Including Braylon Edwards. So while you sit and snicker at OSU, just remember that this isn't just a buckeye issue.

He doesn't deserve sympathy for drunk driving - I can think of few things more irresponsible and downright stupid than getting behind the wheel of a car and putting other peoples' lives at risk because you don't want to call a cab - but anyone taking pleasure in this stuff should probably take a step back.  For one thing, UM has its own checkered history with alcohol and former players, and secondly, there really is nothing superior to watching a guy make a terrible decision.

I sincerely hopes he learns from this and never does something this dumb again.

First Barrett and now a Heisman winning QB. Don't these Ohio cops receive any training on handling of athletes?
