That he:

  • sleeps on the floor next to the bed of recruits to be able to talk to them at any time during the night
  • climbed a tree in his boxers for a recruit

The guy is simply breaking the internet and blowing people's minds. I politely said that none of the above are true, but I feel some people are getting things confused. I then asked if he had any interesting stories with Coach Cal and recruiting to which he did not. I guess handing money over in a brown bag is not so camera worthy...

One of many things I like about having Jim as our coach is how annoyed MSU fans are with our love for the guy. They just cannot stand how happy we are with his being back.

I think they secretly love him too. More like an obsessive type of love though. I go over to RCMB when I need a pick-me-up, mostly to read the hilariously delusional comments (makes me feel a lot better about myself). I went over there yesterday and there was a 111 page thread about Harbaugh. Obsess much?!?

With Hoke and RR there were always glaring holes in how they ran their day-to-day operations, but with Harbaugh there really isn't.  Despite what they say about how the past doesn't matter, most fans remember not that long ago how often UM absolutely blew MSU out of the water on the regular, and that undoubtedly scares them.  I mean, MSU has had the most sustained success in half a century and they still can't out-recruit OSU or UM, they still seem to lose a fair number of recruiting battles, and the talent levels between the two programs are basically equal despite MSU having about a decade to build up their system and UM being on coach number 3.  It has to be dispiriting that they watched one of the more talented MSU teams get mandhandled by Alabama, then look up and see OSU and UM reloading.  I do think MSU will still be a very solid program, but a good UM and a good OSU makes MSU the third-best team in the division almost every year regardless of their talent.

And the funny thing is, Harbaugh doesn't have that different of a personality compared to Dantonio except that he seems to have a better sense of humor, so it's funny to see them freak out about Harbaugh's antics when Dantonio is pretty much the same type of hardass.

I will admit that just about the only thing that has made any news about recruiting entertaining for me is to hear the Harbaugh story attached to it simply because his personality makes this an adventure, as the title of the article says, and fun for someone who would barely follow the process otherwise.

That Vine tweeted out in June by Upshur is still classic. I think the thread in which it was originally posted was another 300+ reply thread....for a Vine....of Jim Harbaugh. That's how entertaining this has been at points.

I, for one, am getting tired of Harbaugh's childish antics. Call me old-fashioned, but I prefer a boring, tight-lipped, college-professor-type coach. One who speaks to 17 year old recruits without smiling or referencing popular culture. Life isn't fun and games. It is a brutal slog for 80 years, then you die. I want a coach who exudes this reality...

Exactly! I want a coach so dry and boring that after 5 minutes of conversation, you are seriously deciding between killing him and going to jail, or just killing yourself to end the pain...

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!”

― Hunter S. Thompson, The Proud Highway: Saga of a Desperate Southern Gentleman, 1955-1967

(Something tells me Harbaugh would agree!)

This is beautiful. I want my coach to have hair that can't move, a surgically imprinted grimace topped with a look of constipation on his face 24/7, and stays up until the wee hours of the morning to keep "those damn kids off my lawn."

I just don't know if Harbaugh can fulfill my expectations.

We're fresh out of those things in Ann Arbor, but I hear East Lansing has one. With extra constipation to boot. Funny thing though, I can't remember it's name...oh well, any first name that starts with M and and last name that starts with D will do just fine, and the more wrong you are the more constipated it looks.

Good lessons in there, independent of who the man is and what school he coaches.

"As a kid, to have adults think you're valuable enough to perform certain tasks gives you a real sense of confidence"
