Dominating Performances Against Top 25 Opponents

Submitted by Clarence Beeks on
So I've been a Michigan fan for (let's just say) a really long time. This question may seem easy on its face, but the answer says an awful lot about the state of our program over the last two decades. Does anyone know the last time Michigan lead a ranked opponent by 28 points or more? My guess (after truly trying to figure this out) is the 2003 Notre Dame game, but I'm not positive Notre Dame was ranked at the time (but am pretty confident they were). This was truly a once-in-a-(fill in the blank) performance for our program and I hope we all savor that a bit.

1976 ... Michigan travels to Columbus to face 8th ranked OSU ... and pastes them 22-0.

Afterwards, Woody Hayes says that was the finest football team they'd faced all year.

Almost all of them were against teams who did not end up ranked nearly as high just like BYU. Let's beat Sparty, OSU, USC or LSU like that before we get too excited.

Wisconsin was 9-0 and ranked #6 when we beat them at the big house in 1998, 27-10. The score could have been so much worse. Our defense completely smothered them and Ron Dayne was a total non-factor. Could have added another touchdown from the 6 yard line but Lloyd chose to run out the clock.
