But didnt someone on the staff refuse to state his 40 time last year but eluded to it being like a 4.3 or somethin?

38.5" vertical for Fuchess, was 8th best, he was last among all WR in the 40. As somone mentioned, he was expected to be a workout warrior because his film isn't all that great with all the drops. Had a bad day. He's going to drop in a very deep class for WRs. 3rd or 4th round is possible.

I want Funchess to become a top 5 NFL receiver/TE one day just so I can bump this thread again and laugh at all these salty haters.

If Funchess was our #1 without "effort" or attitude, WHAT THE HELL does that say about the rest of the receiving core?

What does that say about the coaching? It just builds on the criticism of not giving a fuck and thinking being Michigan is all that will get people to the promise land. Hoke created this atmosphere with his inept coaching staff. Blame them.

This cherry picking of Funchess is pathetic.

We got a thread about Frank Clark where posters are caping for him when he beat a chick, yet Funchess' transgressions are somehow unforgivable sacrilege...

OP is a jackass for this title.  There is speed, and then there is football speed.

Jerry Rice ran a 4.7 at his combine.

Unfortunately this confirms my belief that the team, under Hoke, got big, athletic, yet slow.  Do we even have a deep threat WR at this point?

Funchess uses his body and long strides to help him make up for his lack of explosive speed. Funchess will be a matchup nightmare at the next level. Mi hope he goes to GB, NE, or Baltimore. A 4.7 isn't exactly slow either as some of you seem to think. As long as Funchess gets better and more consistent with catching the ball, he will be in the nfl for a very long time.

Definitely.  At WR, I never saw it.  He might have above average straight line speed, but at his size, he might have trouble getting off jams at the LOS and then regaining his top end speed.  It's happening to Calvin Johnson now.  Devin should've stayed at TE and been an average at best blocker.  The coaching staff screwed this up just like converting our best backup QB to a WR, despite having an injury prone starting QB.

You're blaming the staff for that?

With the problems we've had with the offensive line the last two years we didn't have the luxury of using non-blocking tight ends, and I for one am damn glad Funchess didn't take playing time away from Jake Butt so we could get one more of the receivers on our bench onto the field.

When tackle was the relative strength of the line it made some sense to use Funchess as a nominal TE. Last year, when tackle was a relative weakness, it would have made no sense at all.

He could have really improved and been coached up this next year. Let's not get carried away though. 4.7 is not slow for a guy his size and he will have his pro-day to improve upon that number. I figured him to be around 4.65 so his 4.7 isn't shocking. He still has 1st round potential and would do a lot of damage in certain situations....like NE or Seattle or maybe even Green Bay. The haters need to back off this kid. Wreaks of jealousy.....

Often look fast and do things on the field that actually appear fast. Funchess never looked that fast. Seems like with a little foresight, work and determination he could of added 15-20 lbs and learned to block. Thus becoming a good TE.

Man I hate our fanbase. From the comments here, you'd think Funchess played for the Buckeyes. I hope he turns out to be an All Pro receiver. You guys are pathetic.

Julius Thomas ran a 4.68, for comparison's sake. That's probably Funchess' closest comparison at this point. It's certainly a deathknell for his first round stock, but he could still be a productive NFL player.
