Awesome! I wonder if they'll do LCA or Ford Field?
November 22nd, 2022 at 12:25 PM ^
Just from a capacity standpoint I think it has to be Ford Field?
November 22nd, 2022 at 1:06 PM ^
Screw that, have it at The Big House!
November 22nd, 2022 at 5:21 PM ^
Yes, it'll definitely be Ford Field
November 22nd, 2022 at 12:25 PM ^
Pretty sure Final Fours have to be in football stadium size venues now
November 22nd, 2022 at 12:28 PM ^
That's correct, no arenas.
November 22nd, 2022 at 12:34 PM ^
Cool! Ford Field will be 25 years old at that point, so hopefully it'll be in the cards to update some portions of the stadium, which will be good both for the Final Four as well as future Lions games.
November 22nd, 2022 at 12:43 PM ^
They spent $100 million upgrading it just last year.
November 22nd, 2022 at 1:20 PM ^
Times moves fast -- it was in 2017 they spent the $100 million. They did a good job.

My guess is they'll do some additional improvements in the next 5 years (e.g., perhaps outside?), but it's not necessary. Ford Field is no SoFi or JerryDome, but is very well-kept, modern facility.

I really like Ford Field. Very well done. Only been there for two Lions games. But also went there a couple times to get family COVID jabs.
I went to JerryWorld for UM vs Alabama. I hated it. That screen is a monstrosity. It is a magnet for your eyes. I was in the upper deck and could not help but stare at that thing and had a sore neck by the end of the game. After the game I was thinking why did I pay all that money to go to Dallas to watch the game on TV?
November 22nd, 2022 at 12:24 PM ^
Good! If Minnesota and Indy can get it every few years, there's no reason why Detroit shouldn't be in the rotation, too.
November 22nd, 2022 at 12:40 PM ^
Ever since the NCAA switched to hosting the Final Four in indoor football stadiums, there are only about 8-10 options out there for hosting a Final Four.
November 22nd, 2022 at 1:41 PM ^
I'm happy, it's great for the city, but I will never go to one of those games again. The sightlines are terrible. It's like watching a game out on an airport tarmac.
November 22nd, 2022 at 6:07 PM ^
I went to the finals in San Antonio and sat in a pretty low section on the sideline (yeah, yeah I'm kind of bragging) and the sightline was pretty good. But yeah if you're on the baseline or in a higher section, it would't be ideal.
I will continue to go because I will want to be there in person for the experience and the celebration when we finally frickin break through and win one.
But yeah, I wouldn't attend as a casual if Michigan wasn't in it. Not worth it.
November 22nd, 2022 at 12:34 PM ^
HELL YEAH!!!!
Build that team now please. Whatever it takes.
November 22nd, 2022 at 12:55 PM ^
… A team that you build now for the 2027 Final Four would be full of four-year college types. I’m not saying you don’t want a couple on your team, but Michigan has definitely been trending toward the Kentucky college-is-a-pit-stop model for a while now — even prior to Coach Howard being hired. I don’t see that changing anytime soon.
Unless by “build that team now,” you mean “build relationships with the high school freshmen and sophomores who will star on it?”
November 22nd, 2022 at 1:11 PM ^
Um. Freshmen are playing maybe a quarter of available minutes right now. Next year's recruits (so far) are top-100 types, not top-10 guys. I don't see where Michigan is doing the Kentucky thing.
November 22nd, 2022 at 6:15 PM ^
That seemed like a one-off last year and only with Diabate and Houstan (not a Kentucky-like full class of one and dones).
We currently start only two underclassmen and one is the coaches son.
And other than that coaches son, no one in the 2022 or 2023 class projects to be an early entry player I don't think.
November 22nd, 2022 at 1:04 PM ^
On a bit of a tangent, should the B1G football CCG “move around”? I think the model - an indoor stadium in the conference footprint is the approach. So, Indy, Detroit, and Minny would all be options. And, of course, in the future, the Rose Bowl might also be a venue to consider.
November 22nd, 2022 at 1:16 PM ^
Yes, it should! I mean, why should Indiana and Purdue always get a home field advantage for the championship game?
Oh, wait...
November 22nd, 2022 at 1:22 PM ^
I went to the Regional Finals when they were at Ford Field in 2008. Saw Steph Curry (who I had no idea about) absolutely light up Wisconsin. I think the other teams were Kansas and Nova.
Glad Detroit is in the mix for these. No reason Indy should get all the Midwest events.
November 22nd, 2022 at 1:59 PM ^
The ‘27 Final Four means that Detroit will also host a ‘26 regional.
November 22nd, 2022 at 2:45 PM ^
I don't know if they do that anymore. I thought so too but Houston is this year's FF host and did not have a regional last year; Phoenix is next year and doesn't have a regional this year.
edit: but it seems we do have a regional in 2024 so maybe they're still doing that but just not the one year prior.
November 22nd, 2022 at 2:10 PM ^
Awesome! So glad this is finally happening for the D.
November 22nd, 2022 at 2:12 PM ^
I was kinda hoping an aircraft carrier would get one.
November 22nd, 2022 at 2:24 PM ^
It will -- moored off Odessa in the Black Sea, Vlad.

Dane Fife makes it to NIT final 4 with Msu in 2027
November 22nd, 2022 at 4:15 PM ^
I could see Christian Anderson in his senior year taking us there. I think he’s going to be a fantastic player.
November 22nd, 2022 at 3:38 PM ^
A lot of construction and financial support is occuring in the Downtown/ Midtown areas. I work Downtown and it is vibrant in the Summer. The D will represent vey well!!
November 22nd, 2022 at 7:33 PM ^
This is like saying the lions are close, been hearing this for 40 years!
November 23rd, 2022 at 1:53 PM ^
I take it you haven’t been Downtown in a while. A lot of businesses and lofts have come down there.
November 22nd, 2022 at 8:24 PM ^
Cool beans
November 24th, 2022 at 5:29 PM ^
Why does Sparty get to be the official host? Hell, Eastern and Oakland are closer to Ford Field, not to mention a certain team in Ann Arbor.
