Dan Patrick on the latest Big 10 plan from his source

Dan Patrick, who was the first to report that Big Ten chancellors and presidents were voting to cancel fall football season, weighed in today with the latest on the conference’s plans:

It's a long shot. The video is in the link below.

Interesting. I guess I was unaware of whatever political stuff may be going on at the CDC. If that’s the case it’s unfortunate as you’d think that’d be the best source in times like these.

You seem knowledgeable based on the information you provided so I’ll ask you, if a person had terminal cancer or late stage dementia (hospice level stuff) and contracted the virus prior to passing is that considered a Covid death and, if it is, do you think it should be?

The CDC (and the FDA) and many agencies that roll up to the Trump administration have become quite politicized for agencies that are ideally left to do what they should be doing.

Some examples:

When the CDC rolled out their return to school guidelines and were simply told to revise them because the president thought they were too tough and expensive: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2020/07/08/pence-cdc-changing-coronavirus-school-guidelines-after-trump-attack/5398493002/

Or when more recently the CDC said asymptomatic people who were exposed to the virus don't need to be tested (this is precisely a group of people you want test if you want help to curb spread) which drew widespread criticism from experts and then was walked back.  There didn't seem to be any reason for the guidance other than an attempt to limit positive test numbers which Trump has stated hurts him politically: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2020/08/27/cdc-walks-back-surprise-coronavirus-asymptomatic-testing-guidelines/5645630002/

The influence that the administration is openly exerting over the agency is concerning to say the least.

Not to mention the overall incompetence the agency has demonstrated under existing leadership (they botched the early testing that could have made a big difference early on).

I think the Big 10's plan has been clear for the last few weeks. They're letting the SEC and ACC attempt to play games and are going to sit back and observe the consequences. They don't want to say it publicly which is no surprise.

I’ll probably be opting out too. Nothing says college football like January in indoor NFL stadiums.

Wish in one hand....

At this point, I'd rather just throw all my weight behind getting college basketball going, even if its a conference-only schedule that starts in Jan.

Not having March Madness two years in a row would be.....just awful.

I think the B1G may move up the start of the season to October, if the virus spread decreases and the other conference are playing well. If not, we will not see a winter or spring season. I'm kind of hoping it will be a big fail for the other 3 conferences and the B1G will end up looking good. If not, Michigan and the rest of the B1G will suffer for years due to their shutdown of the season.

I'll trust the decision making of a league with top level academic institutions like Michigan, Northwestern, Cal Berkley, and Stanford over the decision making of leagues that care more about football than the well being of their students and athletes.
