I don't know much about sports betting, but that's a huge jump. What does that tell you people who know about sports betting?

That Vegas, as always sets its lines and attempts to control them in such a manner that they make money, not because they want to accurately predict the future with them.

"And yet Vegas seems to generally be the most accurate predictor. Funny how that happens."

Uhh...no, that's not how it works.  Vegas doesn't make any predictions.  The set lines, odds, spreads, etc. that allow other people to place bets based on those people's predictions.

If the spread moves too far one way or the other -- as measured by the sentiment of gamblers -- the spread will be adjusted as money flows in. The Las Vegas spread is the best predictor of the outcome. That doesn't mean it's necessary a great predictor, or even a good one. But it's the best one.

A lot of money was bet on Harbaugh to Mich. so Vegas adjusted the line.It doesn't mean 'he's coming' rather it means a lot of people think he's coming and have put their money where their mouth is so to speak.

It wouldn't be legal because Mr. Hackett is a public employee and there are laws preventing him from personally profiting from decisions that he makes on behalf of the University.  The state of Michigan has anti-corruption laws, and it seems pretty clear to me that they would apply in this case.

Otherwise, he would have an incentive to bet a longshot and then make a hiring decision based on something other than the best interest of the University.

The more correct interpretation is that it means alot of money was bet on Harbaugh RELATIVE to what was bet on other coaches. This is not surprising as there really hasnt been any buzz regarding about any other candidate looking to have a good chance. All noise recently is about why other candidates are less likely than thought..like Miles (age), Jones ( renegotiating contract). At this point, there really isnt a leading cnadidate for the second choice so hard to see where any moneywould be going outside of Harbaugh.
