Carl Grapentine on Detroit Radio Station All This Week
That voice soothes my soul
Agreed, and so does listening to classical music occasionally.
Double agreed. I have classical on most of the time in my home office. Reduces ambient house noise, but also convinced it triggers creative juices needed for writing.
BAND . . . TAKE THE FIELD!
BACH...Take the field!
Nice
As I type this, they're playing some Stravinsky; leading into Grapentine's slot, they'll be playing Bach.
Then Carl leads off with a piece by Mozart. Good stuff!
(That said, I only recognize about a quarter of the composers by name when I look at this afternoon's playlist.)
I love me some Stravinsky.
He's such a treasure. I got to see him do a pre-concert talk at the Chicago Symphony a few years ago, it was a really pleasant surprise.
I would listen to Carl Grapentine reading the phone book for four hours.
I think his finest moment came in 2016 when we played Hawaii. He rattled off all those names like nobody's business.
Years ago I always listened to Carl on I believe 105.1 in the morning. Have always been a classic music fan as well a UM fan. Carl has been the voice of the band and the golden voice of the Michigan Band for many years. He is the best. GO BLUE!!!!
Absolutely agree on the Hawaii game- the interview he did on the MgoPodcast with Brian a couple seasons ago (I believe it was attached to the Wisconsin 2018 episode? But don't quote me on that) was pretty illuminating, he talks about his preparation process for a job like that.
ive got you all beat... I got to sing next to Carl a fee summers ago. Mozart’s Requiem- UMS Summer Sings. His singing voice is just as good as his press box voice.
Nice! I played that last summer (different festival though)- that piece is terrifying.
Did he sound anything like this?
He's an excellent announcer. The last two seasons I announced our home baseball games. I tried to keep his unbiased factual tone. I don't have anywhere near that voice and that's ok. He's one in a million. The only guy I liked better was Keith Jackson. Just enough excitement zero care for either team.
Grapentine, somehow the perfect name for a classic music station DJ
